13. A Fond Memory
Shed a little tear, grin a little grin, and show us an image that invokes a fond memory for you.
It all started out so innocently. Cool and I were questing in Blades Edge Mountains working on the Rexxar chain. You know, the one which leads you into Bloodmaul Camp to poison three kegs disguised as a Marmot. Then fight some Gronns and ends with you killing Goc using Rexxar’s Battle Horn at the Altar. Apparently this was easier said than done as the last quest seemed to be bugged for us.
So I submitted a game ticket to say that the Quest was indeed bugged. When I did get a reply, the Game Master was helpful enough in resetting the quest for us. However, before he left he stated that there was one other thing he needed to mention. Hmm, I thought. What could that be? Apparently my name had a character that was not allowed as it wasn’t a standard character and as a result, on my next login I would be prompted to do a name change. I proceeded to ask him if I wasn’t allowed to use the letter then how could did the game accept it? He simply stated that there were too many variations that they would have to lock out that it just wasn’t feasible.
Upon telling Coolidge, the first thing he said to me was to tell the GM that if I had to change my name then he would change his too. Frankly I didn’t know what to say at the time except to think that it was such a sweet thing to do. I think my eyes even watered at the thought of him doing such a thing. So before we logged out, I admit I tried to think of things to do before we would have to log out as a memento of sorts, but the only thing I could think of was to take a screenshot of our names before the change. It seems now though that Blizzard is more lax in these naming rules as I see a lot of people using obscure letters.
I’m pleased to say though, that I think I started a trend back then as I never saw anyone else with the undead mount on a BE. It’s commonplace nowadays but back then I felt like I was the exception to the rule and I loved that.
