Can you believe it’s almost the end of another year already? Just where did the time go? Once again I’m making a list so I can remember what was given as well as received during this holiday period.
Tome was the first one to surprise me with a gift this year. I was able to reciprocate with a Ji-Kun Hatchling which seemed fitting for a druid.
I knew I wanted to give Matty something from the Timeless Isle but it’s hard enough seeing the Spirit of Jadefire alive, let alone the drop – at least in my experience.
Cool has been wanting a Crawling Claw for the longest time so when I wasn’t able to get one the old fashioned way, I ended up buying one. We had a claw war to celebrate. Cool bought me a new headset (which has yet to arrive).
Navi was impossible to gift with a pet so I made her a card instead. She ended up being my Aussie Twitter Secret Santa this year.
Arvash only left two possibilities but with one so rare, it was also missing from my own collection. I was left with one option – trying to find a Droplet of Y’Shaarj.
I wanted to give Rades something since he’s given me a lot of blog traffic over the past two years. At first I was going to give him an ENG pet or a Blackfuse Bombling but that proved too expensive. Then I noticed some similarities on our hunters, like our affinity for spirit beasts, including Loque’nahak which is my absolute favourite. In the end I made him a Sapphire Cub (upgraded) to celebrate the fact.
There were also a few others but it didn’t quite work out.
A couple of days ago @DiscoPriest asked: “What’s the best gift you’ve gotten someone else this season?” My answer was simple, “all the pets I’ve given although it’s left me rather poor. =/”
Even so, their reactions made it all worthwhile.
Don’t forget to open your Winter Veil Gift and loot your Crashin’ Thrashin’ Flyer Controller for 2013. You can also complete The Danger Zone achievement by destroying someone else’s flyer.
I hope you all had an eventful Winter Veil.
When I noticed a tweet and missed call from Navi this afternoon, she told me she had dropped by with a gift but ended up leaving it at my front door. Turns out she was my Twitter Secret Santa and hoped it would still be ok by the time I came home. It reached a high of 32°C which is 90°F so I was thinking it must be either cupcakes or chocolate which would surely perish in this heat.
I ended up thinking about my gift for the next couple of hours as the heat continued to soar. Nav said she placed it in the shade so I figured I could shoot home just after dessert. As soon I saw the package, I knew what it was – just as she suspected I would. I haven’t had Haigh’s chocolate since my last contract in the city so it was a nice surprise from my #TSS.
This is what they were supposed to look like.
Gold Star Tin with Milk Hearts
8 milk chocolate foiled hearts in gold star tin.
A delicious coffee fudge with a creamy topping enrobed in milk chocolate.
They were still in pretty good shape but the cappuccino bars needed saving – stat!
After 6hrs in the fridge, one question remained. Were they as good as I remember?
In a word – YES!
Thanks to Nav for the yummy present and @Obsidian_Dragon for organising the event.
It was kind of amusing. Just as I was responding to Tome‘s blog post earlier, I noticed a new notification under my blog admin. I suspected it may have been Tome responding to my earlier post since she’s the most consistent commenter I have on the blog and I was right. Then a few minutes later I heard my phone beep. It was a DM from Tome which read:
I give up, I got lucky with Navi but no one is selling what I need for you so in case they don’t before Winter Veil’s end I’m sending you ..
Aah, don’t leave me in suspense, LOL
Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long. About a minute later, I received the second half of the message.
OMG, a Game Key code! I knew it must be a mount when she mentioned my armory profile.
Ooh, a Winged Guardian.
I’m told you’ve been searching for a – truly – exotic mount.
Does an ancient Winged Guardian of the Titans sound exotic enough?
It just so happened I had a video of the mount (recorded from the PTR) just last week – something I tend to do for mounts I don’t own on live. Now after making the Sky Golem a while ago, I began to wonder if this one did anything unique in the water…
Thank you so much Tome.
I love it! <3
Not only did I get my Rotten Little Helper and the staff I’ve been trying to farm, but an epic new ride too.
There are several new additions for 2013 including the Rotten Little Helper – a new battle pet from the Stolen Present daily reward. I managed to get mine off the third try (see below).
Rotten Little Helper (Humanoid)
Abilities: Club, Booby-Trapped Presents, Greench’s Gift, Ice Lance, Ice Tomb, Call Blizzard.
Note that while the Rotten Helper Box is rare, the pet itself is uncommon and can be caged so expect to see these in the AH. It’s also been reported that a couple of SoO bosses are dropping the santa hats.
The special gift will be the Crashin’ Thrashin’ Flyer Controller found under your faction’s capital city tree as well as two achievements – Crashin’ Thrashin’ Flyer and The Danger Zone.
Players will also be able to purchase the 2012 Winter Veil gifts: Foot Ball and The Pigskin from Toy Vendors Blax Bottlerocket, Clockwork Assistant, Craggle Wobbletop, and Jepetto Joybuzz if exalted with the vendor’s faction.
You’re a Mean One… (daily) requires you to save Metzen the Reindeer and recover some stolen treats after defeating The Abominable Greench. Completing the quest rewards you with a Stolen Present and a small chance to contain a Lump of Coal which can summon Lumpy as well as a Miniature Winter Veil Tree.
Just make your way to the Growless Cave in the Alterac Mountains (south of the Ruins of Alterac) to find the Greench standing guard outside his cave.
There’s no need to race and tag but you may require a group of 2 or 3 to kill him.
Taken from Wowhead
He randomly casts Abominable Crush on players or other objects (winter veil trees) that appear throughout the fight – You’re supposed to run out of it like with Blitz from the first boss of Grim Batol (otherwise huge damage and getting knocked in the air = +fall damage). Snow Crash freezes a player for 6 seconds and deals a bit of damage. This can NOT be cancelled with PvP trinket! It’s cast by the Snowman spawned from Throw Strange Snowman. It is reported that you can avoid Snow Crash if you move far enough away from the Snowman. The Abominable Greench doesn’t hit that hard himself, but the freeze makes it really hard to kill solo unless you have quite good gear and are a blood DK you have to find a small group, maybe a healer but if everyone runs out of Abominable Crush there isn’t that much damage coming. Throw Winter Veil Tree is also cast during the encounter. The Winter Veil Tree is a valid target for Abominable Crush.
Once he’s defeated, multiple gift bags will spawn which any player can loot. As long as you loot a bag and speak to Metzen within 5 minutes of the Greench’s death, you will complete both criteria for an easy hand-in.
A-Caroling We Will Go requires you to use your Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater (also available to purchase from the General Goods vendor) to carol in your enemy capital cities during the Feast of Winter Veil.
In 2012, we had the transition of Winter Veil pets into Battle Pets:
with the addition of several animations:
The best part is they no longer cost a Snowball to summon.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Veil this year. As I said before, this turned out to be the most generous gift giving (and receiving) season I’ve had – in the whole time I’ve been playing – so I’d like to thank all the people who had a hand in it.
I also wanted to keep track of who I’d given gifts to this year as I’ll most likely forget by the time this event rolls around again.
I wanted to give Tome something personal for all her support over the last year. It’s not always easy being the first one to comment on a blog post but she does it more often than not so I thank you.
Again, I felt a personal gift was what I needed (even though Matty was a JC herself) so I looked for something she didn’t have yet. I had even used a battle-stone on it before they hotfixed them all to uncommon.
By now, I had run out of Spirits of Harmony…
To JD (who was so efficient at making the panthers), I thought the Jade Owl and Sapphire Cub were out of the running so I noticed that he didn’t have a Lil Smoky.
In the meantime, I had been trying to get a Gundrak Hatchling (even before Navi‘s birthday) which included some farming and multiple server drop-ins but no luck there. Navi gave me the Burning Spirit I was missing.
For Arv, I saw that I had some spare marks to supplement my Molten Front dailies but no luck on the Searing Scorchling either. Arv gave me another TCG pet.
Angelya scored a Jade Owl (well, it was actually mine – my first one was given to Tome so I ended up remaking her twice). I figured I could just build up some more Spirits over time, which I did. Ang bought me a Guardian Cub as part of my Secret Santa gift
As part of Effy‘s #FFW gift, I thought it would make a great Shammy accessory.
For my recent Cinder Kitten giveaway, Shawndra turned out to be the lucky recipient after writing such a playful piece.
To the person who introduced me to The Last Airbender, Cool’s gift would have to be a Pandaren Spirit, it was just a matter of which. Cool purchased a Cinder Kitten for me as soon as it came out.
After Kamalia showed an interest in Pet Battling, I gifted her Grinder.
Others came to mind as potential gift recipients but didn’t quite work out – a few didn’t show the skill for Pet Battling or had lost touch with them since April.
Lastly, thx to Roshii for wishing me a Merry Christmas late that night.
So there you have it, as I said it was a lot tougher in some cases to try and give a suitable gift but at the same time I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity and support over a rough year.
I wish you all good health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year.
