When I first heard about Vashj’ir, I couldn’t wait to explore the zone – although my love for the area soon changed after I started questing for about an hour. The zone itself is still visually stunning though.
I absolutely love underwater themes which is why my Tier 11 remains one of my all-time favourites. You could also include starfish, seashells, SSC, mermaids, Poesidus, my sea pony (who I’ve contemplated calling Cymre – seahorse and bubbles? I mean, come on!
There’s even a coral reef just off the coast of Uldum although not nearly as colourful or vast.
But you just never know who you might find if you look hard enough…
This post is part of IntPiPoMo – posting 50 screenshots in 30 days.
Poseidus is a rare elite seahorse which drops the unique epic mount Reins of Poseidus.
He remains a very hard mount to own due to his long respawn rate, said to range from 72-120 hours. However, the mount itself is BoE and has been seen in the AH at ridiculous prices from time to time.
There are five spawn spots, one in Abyssal Depths and four in Shimmering Expanse.
Underlight Canyon, Abyssal Depths
Biel’aran Ridge, Shimmering Expanse
Quel’Domir Gardens, Shimmering Expanse
Glimmerdeep Gorge, Shimmering Expanse
Ruins of Thelserai Temple, Shimmering Expanse
If it wasn’t enough that I managed to get my Grey camel from Dormus late last night, I was gob smacked to see Poesidus pop up on my screen today. Before today I had never seen him, not even his corpse. My first thought was he dead or in combat with another player. When I targeted him he was at full health and coming straight for me so I quickly engaged him trying to take a few screenshots before finally killing him. For those wondering, I managed to spot him at this last location. Not surprisingly, he’s an easy kill for an 85.
Poseidus has three abilities:
- Bubble Charge – Charge the target in a shower of bubbles, dealing Frost damage.
- Bubblebeam – Shoot bubbles in a cone in front of the caster, dealing Frost damage.
- Seascape – Attempt to escape from combat and regenerate health. Damage taken will remove the heal effect.
I didn’t notice any attempt to escape on his part since I killed him so fast but his Bubblebeam can be seen in the first picture.
In addition to 89G, this is what he dropped
Subdued Seahorses – side by side
Kissing Cousins, perhaps?
Unlike the seahorse you get in Vashj’ir, Poseidus may be used in any body of water. In addition to the 300% swimming speed (at Artisan Riding skill), it offers something different to the Sea Turtle fished up from the Northrend fishing pools.
That’s two rare mounts in 12 hours!!
I seem to be having the same type of luck as Roshii today :D
Hmm, I wonder if Aeonaxx or Time Lost are up or should I just buy a lottery ticket?
You may have heard of Lady Gaga but have you met Lady La-La?
Then let me introduce you to the rare found in the Kelp’thar Forest of Vashj’ir.
She has 2 rather interesting abilities:
- Briny Romance – Catch the enemy in a briny romance. Deals Frost damage every 3 sec. for 15 sec (seen on my cat) and
- Siren’s Song – Cause all nearby enemies to just dance!
When you first engage her you can hear music playing. On closer inspection you realise it’s coming from her… hence the name and outfit :P
All in all, we took our time killing her because she is by far the most interesting and amusing rare we’ve come across in a long time.
Lady La-La’s Singing Shell
Here’s our 2nd Group Rare kill taken in the Abyssal Depths of Vashj’ir. The kill itself took ~12mins with five level 80’s.
Mobus has 4 abilities:
- Algae clouds which can be easily moved out of once he has targeted someone;
- Ram which had our tank using a CD for every cleave;
- Wake basically our DPS kept to one side of him for the duration; and
- Enrage which he will do towards the end.
We actually used 2 healers but could probably have used one as long as everyone watched out for his abilities. All in all, I had to hymn once and fiend in addition to 3 innervates :P That’s DPS/healing though.
Mobus’s Vile Halberd
(He now drops Mobus’s Dripping Halberd)
