15. A Fairy Tale Image
World of Warcraft is often described as cartoony and looking a bit, well, fairy tale-ish. Take a screen shot that makes you think of a fairy tale – use Disney inspiration if you must! Feel free to edit this screen shot a bit to enhance the fairy tale feel, or just get super creative with that in game camera!

There have been many adaptations of the story over the years and is thought to have originated somewhere in Europe sometime around the 14th Century. The most familiar version for me was the one written by The Brothers Grimm which was based on two retellings of the story and further revised in later editions.

“Oh, grandmother, what big ears you have!”
“The better to hear you with”.
“Oh, grandmother, what big eyes you have!”
“The better to see you with”.
“Oh, grandmother, what big hands you have!”
“The better to grab you with”.
“But, grandmother, what a dreadful big mouth you have!”
“The better to eat you with”.

The Red Riding Hood movie released in 2011 brings to life the latest adaptation of the story. I must say that I really enjoyed the movie and was better than I expected. So much so, I was eager to find a costume that would fit the bill in-game. I’m even inspired to do some more Fairy Tale costumes now and have three completed so far, including this one. So stay tuned :)

This also brings me to the end of my 15 day challenge. I must admit it was a lot of fun. Don’t be surprised if my posts slow down now… :P

Edit: recently posted on Kamalia’s blog, I thought this one was worth mentioning. Check it out :)

14. Place Swap
If you could be any of your characters, who would you be and why?

This was an easy choice as it would have to be my main Cymre. She has excelled at many professions and careers over the years but it’s her adventurous nature that takes the No. 1 spot. She had a pretty close call with her last venture into Dawning Woods Catacombs but that’s half the fun isn’t it?

It also turns out that this is the 100th post for my Blog which I only started a month and a half ago. Not sure if that’s good or bad since a lot of those were back posts from my previous Guild site, Forums and Journal. If it wasn’t for back publishing, I would feel a little (OK, maybe more than a little) obsessive about posting 100 times in that time frame :P

So I’m going to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s been brought to my Blog for one reason or another and made a comment. I hope I can keep your interest going for the next 100 :)

Faerie Circle - Midnight

12. Inspiring Imagery
Show us something that inspires you within World of Warcraft. This can be a character, a person, scenery that leaves you in awe, or whatever it is that strikes a chord in you. The inspiration it creates can be anything as well: Has this character inspired you to roll a certain class? Does a certain zone make you long to write a story about your character adventuring through that particular area?

In the heart of the Whispering Forest there’s a magical mushroom circle as well as a number of Faerie Dragons known as Fey-Drunk Darters. Upon closer inspection, you’ll even see a layer of mist hovering high above the circle. One-by-one seven Fey-Drunk Darters will spawn and fly erratically not too far from the mushrooms. They each take their time spawning so you’ll be in for a wait, even when all are present. Don’t worry though, it’s definitely worth it as you get an amazing light show in return.

Watch as all seven Fey-Drunk Darters slowly move towards the circle and seem to sing as magical golden notes appear above their heads. Funnily enough in my evening show, only six took part giving me the opportunity to take the place of the seventh Darter.

While the music is playing, beams of golden light shine from each Darter, converging in the centre of the mushroom ring – known as the Faerie Circle. The deer, fawn and stags in the area seem enchanted by the music as they slowly gather around the circle. The event lasts ~2mins ending when the Darters slowly turn to fly away, perhaps fading out to the Emerald Dream. The curious animals similarly walk away as if nothing had happened.

Hours later, the event begins again and from what I’ve seen, it seems to happen any time of day as I managed to see the event twice the same day; once in the afternoon and later that evening.

If you haven’t experienced the magic of the Faerie Circle yet, I recommend watching this video (recorded by Syrco Owl). Although I didn’t have any spectators around at the time, it almost felt like I’d been teleported to some other world or perhaps some kind of magical Ballet.

You can find out more about the Whispering Forest at WoW Insider. Thanks also to Warcraft Less Traveled for the beautiful music script: (just copy + paste in-game)

/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\Music\Cataclysm\MUS_41_faeriedragon_UE01.mp3")
