Miner
2
I was really pleased with this outfit when it came together. I know the pic is a little dark but I think it adds to the whole idea of working down in the mines. However, not all items are transmoggable.
Head: Goblin Construction Helmet
Chest: Brown Linen Vest
Shirt: Master Builder’s Shirt
Waist: Ancestral Belt
Hands: Cross-Stitched Gloves
Legs: Cross-Stitched Pants
Feet: Shadow Council Boots
Main Hand: Mining Pick
Off hand: Eerie Stable Lantern

This isn’t really a transmog outfit but I’ve been holding onto these pieces for a while now. It’s made up primarily of the Dilapidated Cloth set and the wacky looking helmet is from Mekgineer Thermaplugg in Gnomeregan.
Head: Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator
Chest: Dilapidated Cloth
Waist: Dilapidated Cloth
Hands: Dilapidated Cloth
Legs: Dilapidated Cloth
Feet: Sorcerer Slippers
Main Hand: Hammer of Judgement
Off hand: Eerie Stable Lantern
Alternate Options
Chest: Seer’s Padded Armor

Crawling Claw
3Unsolved: This appears as nothing more than the paw of a small primate. A closer inspection shows that the hand has been dried by centuries of exposure to the sands of Uldum. Still, you have no doubt that it is far more than meets the eye.
Solved: A legend among the tol’vir tells of a wicked djinn whom the Ramkahen sought to destroy. In an attempt to prevent his own death, the djinn tried to transfer his spirit into the body of a monkey. He was slain right in the middle of the transference, and only a fraction of his essence had moved over – only enough to possess the monkey’s paw.

Digging with my trusty claw

My claw can’t resist a good photo op

Makes a great Archaeology companion
The Mummified Monkey Paw is one of the rare Archaeology finds from Tolv’ir. Upon completion it will reward you will the Crawling Claw pet. Just like The Last Relic of Argus, it requires 450 skill to find and 150 Tol’vir Archaeology Fragments to solve. Up to three [Tol'vir Hieroglyphic] keystones may be used to complete it.
This has to be one of my favourite pets in-game and hands down one of the best rare items from Archaeology. The sound the Claw makes when clicked reminds me of Alien (the movie). It even plays Rock, Paper, Scissors when in the vicinity of another Crawling Claw. Winning a match will give a Thumbs up. However, losing a match will cause the claw to explode and will need to be re-summoned.
To this day I’ve only seen one other person on the server with this pet out. It was late one night when I was in the old reforging shop when all of a sudden I noticed my claw had disappeared in a puff of smoke. Seconds later I realised that the Alliance Shadow Priest next to me had hers out too. I managed to see both claws duke it out in another match before she ran off. Two matches and it turned out to be a tie.
With Mists of Pandaria coming out and the pet battle system, I see this as being one of my fighting pets. Go Claw!
Things to note:
- Before 4.1 this item used to be BOA, but you could only learn it on one character;
- With the improved number of fragments per dig, this item should be a little easier to get.
Darkmoon Island
1One of the things I was most looking forward to when Patch 4.3 hit was the new Darkmoon Fair. I always made a note of when the Fair would be up as it was a good way to stock up on herbs, leather and other goodies. Reputations are another thing I like to work on and I can’t help but get a sense of satisfaction when I see a band of 999/1000 running down my reputation bar. Unfortunately, I managed to get Exalted prior to the patch when it was a lot more monotonous with the old hand-ins and deck turn-ins.
With the promise of a whole new island to satisfy our love of fun and games, it was the first thing I did when I logged in this morning. In Orgrimmar, you can talk to the Darkmoon NPC who’s located very close to the Flight Master, just look for the Darkmoon banner right next to her. She offers a quest which leads you to the Island. Once there you will receive the Darkmoon Adventurer’s Guide which will allow you to get extra tickets. However, I quickly noticed that she had no quest for me when I logged in. Presumably because I had done the quest when it was offered a long time ago. After some research it was discovered that I could just head over to the island and obtain a Darkmoon Adventurer’s Guide just by speaking to the Information Officer in the left tent just as you enter the Fair.
I must say that the new quests and dailies were a nice change from the old hand-ins you used to do for rep. You can purchase some Darkmoon Game Tokens from Trixi Sharpworth who’s located in her own little tent towards the far end of the main row just before the Deathmatch Pavilion on the RHS. You have a choice of Pouch o’ Tokens (5) or Sack o’ Tokens (25). The new games on offer were the:
- Ring Toss – Land 3 rings on the Darkmoon Turtle. Spamming button 1 since the turtle seems to move in the last sec procs my 4-pc heal set :P
- Tonk Commander – Use your Darkmoon Tonk to destroy 30 Tonk Targets in the time allowed.
- Shooting Gallery – Score 25 points in 60 seconds. You can even earn the Quick Shot achievement.
- Whack-a-Gnoll – Score 30 points by whacking Gnolls. Hit Hogger for 3 pts.
- Human Cannonball * – Accumulate 5 Cannon Target Points by landing near the target. If you think you hit the Bullseye (which awards 5 points and another achievement) wait a few secs for the achievement/quest to register before moving.
* Note to self: When landing in the water and using levitate to get back on land, remember to cancel levitate before you get shot out of the cannon again as you’ll just keep going, and going, and going even after cancelling the wings =/ I ended up hitting fatigue but thankfully didn’t die.
Note: If you’re not seeing the little red arrow to dismount from the tiger, use /leavevehicle
In addition to this, one of the quests Test Your Strength offers you 10 tickets for collecting 250 Grisly Trophies. These were very easy to acquire as Coolidge and I ran the Well of Eternity and managed to get ~60 just from there. Especially the last encounter since the demons that spawn have a chance to give you the items as well. After the dungeon, we headed over to Deepholm to farm the rest of trophies since there are large groups and the mobs respawn fast. We managed to complete our quest in ~15mins or so.
What puzzled us at first was the fact that the number of trophies we each accumulated from killing things seemed to be sporadic and differed in number, even though we were killing the same mobs. After doing some research however, I found that you just have to tag the mob as you normally would for XP, not necessarily get the killing blow.
Also on offer were some quests relating to your professions. Do six of these and you get a nice little achievement. Speaking of achievements, you can get quite a few, from handing in all the artifacts to sampling all the food and drink on offer.
If you’re a fan of the pets, be sure to try to get your Sea Pony from fishing the coastal waters around the island. Not sure if I was just lucky but I managed to get the pet within an hour of fishing. From what I’ve heard in-game and on Twitter, it seems a hotfix may be coming soon.
There are also pools of wreckage along the coast, if you go looking around the island. They offer some nice goodies relevant for 85′s, inc food, potions, ore, cloth, herbs etc.
If you’d like to know some of the back story to the Darkmoon Faire, I suggest listening to The OverLores Podcast. You can also head over to The Daily Frostwolf – Druid Edition to find out more about the ghosts in the area.
After handing in all the quests today, I managed to get 55 tickets in total. This included two of the Artifacts needed for the achievements and extra tickets. I see it’s going to take a while to get all the pets and mounts.
So here’s to the next grind; at least for the next week anyway.
