Day 1 – Pet Battles
7As part of Navi’s Ten Days of Pet Battles, I wasn’t sure if I had anything new to contribute since a lot of it is already on the blog but it’s always nice to reminisce about the things you love, so here goes.
It’s been seven months since I first wrote about Pet Battles. My first beta post on the subject described my initial experiences with it since I didn’t learn the skill until it was reactivated for beta players. But it wasn’t long before the post morphed into the Pet Battle Guide you see today. So having the ability to see my very first revision of the post, you can read what it was really like for me (with added notes in italics).
Day 1: Your first day pet battling.
Things are quite buggy on the beta right now.
- Missing pets – not all pets were available through the character transfer. I ended up transferring Cymre over four times over the course of the beta.
- Dead pets on challenge - This was one of the most aggravating bugs since you would start a battle and all your pets, inc. enemy pets would be dead as soon as you entered – like watching a mass suicide over and over. This was particularly annoying at the time as I was trying to capture a cheetah cub which was really hard to come by.
- Pets phasing in and out - passing through the threshold of zones between Mulgore and Barrens thanks to CRZ’s.
- Flagging when you change zones or go into same faction territory – At the time I thought it was odd as I would flag passing into Thunder Bluff.
I was excited the morning after the new patch, even though it was ~19GB of download goodness. I asked on Twitter if the Battle System still needed L90 to test and was told you only needed to be L5. Woot! I couldn’t wait for my DL to finish so I could test it.
I remember getting a kick out of seeing the name of the Trainer in Org. Even Matty couldn’t resist having a look when she noticed a spike in traffic.
So I headed outside the gates of Orgrimmar to find the first paw I could battle. I was so excited when I saw this little guy (although he was labelled a Creepy Crawly beforehand).
I mean, when do we ever get to see Harvesters in Horde zones? It brought be back to my early playing days, running around Westfall on my Night Elf/Human, so this was an unexpected surprise. I was so excited, I was just hoping I didn’t kill it from my choice of pets. Luckily I didn’t.
So this was the makeup of my original team. As you can see, I really only used my corehound as he was such a beast and demolished any opponent I went up against, including tamer pets.
I had such a blast that day, I couldn’t resist mentioning my first moonkin hatchling battle – I almost died laughing in my chair.
If you get a chance, battle your moonkin hatchling with a rat (or anything with stampede). It was the cutest thing, I couldn’t stop laughing. Stampede causes the moonkin to spin around (as it flaps its wings) which was adorable.
And from there, I was hooked.
Mog Busting challenge
8There’s a new mog challenge going around. Shoryl over at Tiny WoW Guild has put together a meme asking bloggers to help fellow players with a mog outfit for one of their characters. Since she’s tagged me, I’ve been supplied with the following background info:
Name: Sruith, female dwarf (US-Ysera)
Class: Shadow Priest
Item: Whitemane’s Chapeau
Notes: Sruith wants to have a great silhouette in shadow form, so she’s particularly fond of gloves with a little flair; but she also wants to look good when she’s pinch healing! (Also, she will do plenty of dungeons, but no raiding, so while you don’t need to limit her to gear she can wear today, it would be nice to not have gear that is only available to raiders.)
Head: Whitemane’s Chapeau (Drop in Scarlet Monastery)
Shoulders – Primal Mooncloth Shoulders (Crafted by tailors of 365+ skill)
Chest – Primal Mooncloth Robe (Crafted by tailors of 375+ skill)
Waist: Voidweave Cilice (Drops off a rare in Nagrand)
Hands: Mana Shaping Handwraps (Loot from a box in BRD)
Feet: Eternal Boots (World Drop)
Main Hand: Cataclysmic Gladiator’s Energy Staff (PVP vendor)
Although a few of the items are tailor made, you don’t need to be the one to make them. The staff may be purchased once the season ends with honor.
As an alternative if you don’t mind wearing pants:
Alternative Option
Shoulder: Mindrage Pauldrons
Chest: Cindercloth Vest
Waist: Girdle of Prophecy
Legs: Mooncloth Leggings
Hands: Don Tayo’s Inferno Mittens
Feet: Vindicator’s Silk Footguards
Main Hand: Brutal Gladiators Battle Staff
So there you go Shoryl, hope you like one of those.
OK so my turn to tag. I’m asking Kamalia to create an outfit for my bald hunter.
Name: Tallys, female orc (US-Dath’remar)
Class: Hunter
Item: Rough Bronze Curiass
Notes: She does have a preference for bows and crossbows but doesn’t do any end-game raiding. She’s also a leatherworker who has quite a lot of the drop recipes.
Then and Now
4Vidyala over at Manalicious recently did a post about how her toon has changed over the years. Predominately, what has changed and what has stayed the same. She asked herself:
How would an old image of my main character look alongside a new one?
It’s an interesting question. I don’t have many pictures of my toon in the beginning but there are a couple that fit the bill. I feel that I should mention, if you’re new to my blog, that Cymre was originally a human Priest, created as a precursor to BC coming out. I levelled her as shadow all the way to 60 doing dungeons and PVP’ing until she reached Rank 10. I managed to achieve this rank just before they took away the ranking system.

Although you can't see my gear you can see what my UI looked like. Shadow was a lot simpler back then.
Looks like I mainly used Titan Panel, Decursive and Recount as my main AddOns of choice. Cool and I still shared the same Guild name even though it was on a different server. This was our break from our regular server, 2P’ing a lot of the content once we hit max level, as well as a lot of PVP.

The day I reached the Rank of Lieutenant Commander in my full PVP set - 21 November, 2006
It was a pain in the butt doing enough PVP every week to progress through the ranks. In fact, towards the end I was getting really burnt out from the honour grind. It didn’t help that the time I did my matches we lost so many, but I guess that’s what you get for PVP’ing on a US server.

Çymre & Çoolidge before our name changes - 13 May, 2007
I wrote about this picture in a fond memory post for Saz’s screenshot challenge. It was a sad day when Cool and I had to change our names due to a naming rule. Looks like I was just wearing quest items but the most memorable thing to me is the mount. There weren’t really any Blood Elves on the the Undead racials at that time.
Still on Khadgar, playing as Disc, adding Healbot and Skada to my repertoire of AddOns. I love how whispers from a random person can make your day :)

After our first Lich King kill - September 2010
After moving to Dath’remar, I remember buying the gown first as I just loved the look of it. Coolidge didn’t mind either :P

Part Tier 13, part mix 'n match - 2012
So what’s changed?
The main things are the race change – even though we levelled from 0 to 70 and of course the name. I’ve also experimented with new hairstyles quite a bit, as you can see above. But one of the best changes are from transmog, although soon I’ll be reverting back to my Tier 13.
