There doesn’t appear to be anything new this year so if you’ve collected all your achievements, recipes and festival outfits, you won’t have much to do at all. As usual, you can check out the one on WoWHead for a full guide.
I decided to try and collect all the outfits (including the pant sets) this year so I’ll be visiting a number of elders to buy the three off the vendor. To begin, I needed some runecloth and firebloom for the festival dress and pant suit so I headed to BRD and Searing Gorge for each of them respectively.
After logging back on my priest, I headed over to Winterspring to see if I could find any Snowy Owls around. I happened to find one pretty easily so if you’re still missing one from your collection, now is a great time to get one.
Chinese New Year falls on the 31st January so Kung Hei Fat Choi to all the Horses and other zodiacs out there.
The Lunar Festival is a 2-week event which is based on Chinese New Year. This year, it will start on 27th January and finish on 10th February 2013.
There isn’t really anything new for 2013, other than the pets becoming battle pets which is a real shame seeing that this expansion was based in Pandaria – especially since the Lunar Festival is one of my favourite world events in-game.
If you’d like to see what’s involved for the whole event you can follow this guide.
If you managed to get all the achievements done in previous years then there’s really not a lot to do. Last year, there was only one new achievement: Elders of Cataclysm which required you to honour the 9 new Elders introduced though the opening of the Cata zones (bringing the total number of Elders to 84).
Elder Sekhemi in Uldum – (32, 63) Located at Ruins of Ammon

Elder Evershade in Nordrassil – (63, 23) Next to the Inn, Alliance side portal
Elder Stonebrand in the Temple of Earth – (50, 55) Located at the Entrance of the Temple
Elder Deepforge in Deepholm – (28, 69) Located at Stonehearth
Elder Firebeard in Twilight Highlands – (51, 71) Located at Dunward Town Square of Dunward Ruins
Elder Darkfeather in Twilight Highlands – (52, 33) Located at Thundermar Ruins
Elder Moonlance in Vashj’ir – (57, 86) Located at Biel’aran Ridge, Shimmering Expanse
Festival Lantern (Horde) and Lunar Lantern (Alliance) respectively
Two pets are available to buy with Lunar currency – the Lunar Lantern and Festival Lantern. They are faction-specific vanity pets (blue/red lanterns in the style of the Lunar Festival decorations) that cost 50 Coins of Ancestry each. The good news is they are BoE, meaning you will be able to trade them on the neutral AH to collect both.
With so many Elders to visit, it will be easy getting enough coins to buy the pet. However, I found it faster to accumulate the coins from Northrend as they are more tightly packed, as well as the new Cata ones for the achievement. All-in-all you’ll be getting a lot of flying miles. What a shame there’s no frequent flyer program :P
So hurray for Pet collectors and Happy New Year – especially to all those Snakes out there!
Kung Hei Fat Choi!
