Pocahontas

With its lush forests and perpetual starlight, Shadowmoon Valley has quickly become one of the most beautiful places of Draenor and it’s not hard to see why. As soon as I saw the weeping willows, I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for Pocahontas.

The portrait was inspired by one of my favourite scenes in the movie where John Smith first spots her through the mist. As you can see, my version includes Meeko and a dress which has been slightly adjusted.

To finish, I thought I’d add a bit of eye candy for the zone itself.

Jasmine

This week it’s a mini post for Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. The following artist’s ‘Real Life’ series features many Disney characters but I think Ariel is my favourite.

Even though it’s a pretty simple outfit, I would have to say her trademark is really her hair. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any pet biscuits on any of my high toons and the carpet was limited to my tailor.

Tonight, I’ve added some of the elements I wanted to last night.

Thank you for choosing “Magic Carpet” for all your travel needs. Don’t stand until the rug has come to a complete stop. Thank you. Goodbye, now. Goodbye. Goodbye. Thank you. Goodbye.

Initially I was going to use my Kirin Tor Familiar for the genie but after a full circuit of tamers I didn’t get any pet biscuits in any of the bags. As it turns out, I think the guy behind me seems more convincing.

A lot better than yesterday’s attempt anyway.

Mulan

The original ballad of Hua Mulan appeared during the 6th century although many believe it’s based on historical events a century earlier. Since then, the story has been retold as a poem and then expanded into a novel. Her story has inspired many stage, TV and movie adaptations including the popular Disney version which did not feature too well in China but is still one of my favourite Disney movies.

Chinese audiences felt they couldn’t relate to the character leaving her portrayal quite unrecognisable for viewers. For one thing, Mulan had a younger brother who was too young to take her father’s place but in the movie he’s portrayed as a dog.  I didn’t grow up with the folk tale so for me, Ming Na Wen and Lea Salonga were two big drawcards for me.

Mulan: Rise of a Warrior is the live action version which won several awards including Best Actress for Wei Zhao although I didn’t realise Jackie Chan’s son was also in the movie. Now for an 18yo to spare her ill and elderly father from having to fight again, it’s amazing to think that she fought in the army for 12 years, steadily climbing the ranks to general. As you would expect it’s a more graphic retelling of the story and quite sad in places so I won’t say any more than that.

I just love this piece from Sakimichan, especially her distinct asian features and the colours are just gorgeous.

Hua Mulan

Now here’s one of my favourite scenes from the Disney movie.

The following image was taken from my original Fairy Tale post (with a couple of new additions) including the Purehearted Cricket Cage – a drop in the Siege of Orgrimmar.

As I was working on this post, I decided to watch Mulan: Legendary Warrior (an alternate name for the live adaptation) a second time and was not disappointed. However, I want to end the night on a lighter note so I’ll be following that up with the Disney version after dinner.

The Little Mermaid

Ariel happened to be the first character I created for my Fairy Tale collection but I always wanted to go back and improve on the image – like I did with Red Riding Hood a couple of times. Then after she was featured in a recent Once Upon a Time episode, it reignited my desire to have another go.

Ariel

The Vestments of the Shifting Sands (as seen in my Armed and Dangerous series) was the obvious choice but the bottom half was another story. My first thought was to use the Robes of Insight but the green highlights from my Tier pants seemed to be a better choice. But what’s a mermaid without a tail? Special thanks to Linzee777 for allowing me to use one of hers.

Now if only we could have a magical bracelet which gave us a tail whenever we wanted.

Red

I’ve featured Red Riding Hood a few times now, starting with a post I did as part of Saz’s Through your Interface challenge. It turned out to be one of my favourites from the set but decided to postdate it so it would be published last. Ah the wait! Not surprisingly, I’ve created some other Fairy Tale characters since then to keep her company.

Later that year, I had an opportunity to reinvent her costume as part of Matty‘s Hallow’s End challenge based on the movie release but when I saw the Lil’ Bad Wolf as one of the upcoming pets in Patch 5.3, it was a no-brainer to use the pet next.

The challenge here was getting the right opera event since you have a one in three chance to begin with. Luckily after my third attempt, I managed to get The Big Bad Wolf and drop I needed. Next came a visit to the bank to try and come up with another costume but after putting together a couple of options, I needed to battle a Master Tamer for a shot as some pet biscuits (I usually chuck mine for room and yes I know they stack to 50 now). Luckily, the one outside Kara was feeling generous.

In the end I decided to tweak the original outfit I had since I had a few other pieces I could play with – the benefit of extra Justice Points.
