Over the last few days, I’ve been able to knock two more dungeon achievements off the list. First we headed into the Siege of Niuzao Temple so I could complete Run with the Wind which was quite fun to complete. Then today we tried The Obvious Solution in Shado-Pan Monastery before I remembered a post from Warcraft Less Traveled about the Shrine of the Unseen Force.
I admit it was quite tricky getting to the island with the shrine, especially for a non-engineer. I thought I would be ok using levitate but after finding an invisible wall on top of the tiger statue outside the Sha of Hatred’s room, I decided to try a different location but it wasn’t much better. Having so much trouble getting to the shrine while Cool casually glided over to the island made me want to switch to engineering right that minute.
On the Timeless Isle, I often take a running mounted jump off from the top of Ordon’s Sanctuary towards the Blazing Path, sadly it didn’t quite work on top of the tiger’s head or on top of one of the close pillars. I ended up floating down to the rock just under the level I needed to reach the shrine. After a few more attempts, I levitated down before Cool rescued me from the rock with his two-seater mount.
Apart from the shrine, we found two stealthing assassins which only had this line to say.
Clicking on the Shrine of Unseen Force will give you a buff which increases your chance to hit by 90%. This is particularly handy for the Hate Leads to Suffering achievement where you have to defeat Taran Zhu after every party member has accumulated full hatred via Haze of Hate. Cool and I completed the achievement over a year ago with our tank and heals combo but for fresh 90s this may be a desirable buff to have.
About 10 minutes before server maintenance, I hearthed back to Org to make it official. Goodbye enchanting… hello engineering.
Looks like I’ll be pretty busy tomorrow.
I’ve been thinking a lot about engineering lately or to be more specific – changing professions. This is not a new idea for me, take this post I wrote back in 2011 but nothing really happened on that occasion. Since then I’ve been thinking more seriously about it. My current professions are jewelcrafting and enchanting but with the upcoming changes in WoD, I’m left wondering how useful these professions will be in the next year or so.
During Blizzcon, some itemisation changes were revealed for both:
The fact that we’ll get a greater variety of choices, for say a weapon, sounds intriguing so I will probably wait until I hear more about this. Hopefully I’ll be able to try these changes out on the beta before I decide one way or another.
Recently, Lore (Community Manager) responded to this very concern saying:
We do want to slim down on the overall number of gems and enchants you’ll need to put on your gear. That’s primarily a quality of life change. We want to make it less of a hassle to be able to equip a new item.
That said, we don’t think these changes have to mean that e.g. Jewelcrafting will no longer be a decent source of income. We could — and this is purely a hypothetical example — make the best gems rarer, which would drive prices up and increase profit margins. If you can make just as much gold (comparatively) off of one gem in Warlords as you can selling three in Mists, that’ll help substantially.
Out of the two, I can see myself giving up ENC over JC since I do love my bling but there are so many reasons I’d love to take up engineering. I already have two on my account but one remains unplayed on an old server, 23 levels shy of 90 while the other is my pali who I really only levelled for her mining ability. She also specialises in all the goblin goodies while Cool makes up for all the gnomish counterparts.
Not only will I be able to play with all the fun gadgets, drop a repairbot or mailbox inside dungeons and raids (that’s a big plus already), I’ll be able to summon my own Blingtron 4000 and use mounts unique to engineers.
No longer will I pretend it’s Cymre when I’m really on my paladin. I’ll be able to wear all the cool helmets, Mechbuilder’s Overalls, Rocket Boots, Goggles – not to mention glove, belt and cape enchants.
But then these are just the ones I’ve played with briefly.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I want to change but I’m still in bad shape from all the Winter Veil expenses a couple of months ago.
So tonight I’d love to know: what are your favourite items from engineering and why do you love them?
When I discovered two new engineering pets and a mount were coming, I had every intention of making the pets first but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to make the mount. I know, GASP! The same thing happens when I upgrade my gear, I purchase the more expensive pieces first like the chestpiece. This meant it would take a full month to transmute 30 pieces of Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source for the Sky Golem. As expected, I saw a few people running around on these yesterday, including Cool.
Collecting the schematic wasn’t bad at all since it dropped off the first set of mobs we pulled. This is what you can learn:
- Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source (daily transmute requiring 10x Ghost Iron Bars)
- Sky Golem: 30x Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source + 30x Living Steel
- Advanced Refrigeration Unit: 5x Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source + 5x Living Steel
- Pierre: 15x Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source + 15x Living Steel
- Rascal-Bot: 15x Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source + 15x Living Steel
I had seen Cool on his earlier and I must admit it looked like a lot of fun so as soon as the daily CD reset (I missed a day =S), I was on my engineer ready to make it. I couldn’t wait to take it for a test drive.
Too bad my herbie is already a toe picker.
