Engineering Additions

Engineering Additions

A lot of recipes were added to yesterday’s beta build so I’ve been anxious to make the new Blingtron 5000 and three of the engineering pets.

Blingtron 5000

So far, he hasn’t given me anything interesting but I’ve only picked up two packages and have yet to battle another Blingtron.

Blingron requires 60x Gearspring Parts and 600 engineering with only 30x Gearspring Parts needed for each pet. Gearspring Parts are easily generated from work orders in the Engineering Works with an increased production if you have a follower assigned.

Now check out the details on the Mechanical Axebeak. I wasn’t too impressed with the normal hunter and organic battle pet axebeaks but this one is a lot more impressive.

Here’s the Mechanical Scorpid.

I decided to go back to the garrison after a short trip to Nagrand thinking it would make a nice backdrop for the Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar but forgot how clingy my pets can be. Lil’ Xu-Fu kept following me around so I alt-tabbed (hoping he’d turn around and walk away in the process).

Well he didn’t.

I zoomed out my camera and saw this…

pile up

I can’t even tell how many pets are on top of me >.<

Pile up on the garrison border!

My What Pretty…

err, tusks you have.

Hooray, it finally happened. I went through the Dimensional Ripper only to come out looking a bit… blue, plus a Y chromosome. Now I can’t say I’ve ever felt more ridiculous but wow, I don’t think my mog suits a male troll. I had a bald head coming through so I wondered if a headpiece would look even sillier. I’ll let you be the judge.

It wasn’t long before I switched to my shadow set to see how that looked.

Engineer CymUm, yeah…not much better. I probably should have tried on some of my other outfits like my Pink or Red sets but maybe next time.

I can’t really complain though, this shows Kablamm’s schematic isn’t entirely ‘faulty’ after all.

Now I just need to get my overalls to drop before my engineering outfit is complete (as illustrated by Cool a little while ago). It’s pretty much my dream outfit in chibi form with a distinct Astroboy slant.

I won’t hold my breath though, it may just drop when Netherstorm freezes over…

Hmm, let’s see how long this lasts.

It’s a Long Way Down

It’s a Long Way Down

So remember how Kablamm gave me a faulty schematic? Well, something finally happened. There was no race transformation or even a chicken to be found but getting teleported to a floating rock in Netherstorm?  At least it’s something, right?

Area 52 rock

It immediately reminded my of the Last Relic of Argus while trying to document all twenty-five locations. A few are even referenced in my Adventures of Cymre Jones video.

Over the past week, I’ve been making good use of my gadgets, especially my portable vendor on a 1hr CD.

Someone even asked for an engineer in my LFR yesterday so I used it after zoning in on Garrosh sitting pretty on 4D. I didn’t mind though since he’s the only one I need – if only he’d drop my weapon. On first impression, it seemed worse than the week before but we killed him first go which was a nice surprise.

Even Moll-E is getting some use but there’s really no comparison between the two items. For a gadget on an almost instant cooldown, you’re still left with some minor limitations. I needed to summon my Argent companion when Jeeves was still on a 15min wait but having these extra options makes farming a breeze.

I still do a bit of a clicking dance, having to constantly pick up items just to destroy them straight afterwards. Makes me wonder just how much Raw Crab Meat I’ve destroyed just to use another shell or buff item. The same thing happens when I try to relist my unsold auctions from the AH. It seems a bit silly summoning a mailbox when there’s a usable one only 2 steps away but that’s where I am these days.

Mechbuilder Overalls

Hopefully I can get those Mechbuilder Overalls but my farming sessions are not coming up with the goods.

Not Happy, Kablamm

Not Happy, Kablamm

Talk about anti-climactic. The Dimensional Ripper from Goblin engineering can transport you to Area 52 with some unexpected results (if you’re lucky). The schematic is taught by Kablamm Farflinger – the Transportation Engineer located right next to the teleporter inside the Area 52 complex but after three tries, I’m left feeling rather ordinary. For the one item I don’t want to see “working as intended”, there was no random player/race skin like this one for Cool.

Area 52 transport

What you can expect to see if it successfully malfunctions is:

  • Transporter Malfunction – Looks like your pattern matrix got mixed up with the last person to use the transporter pad.
  • Soul Sprit: Evil! – Only the dark half of your soul made it though the transport.
  • Soul Split: Good! – Only the light half of your soul made it though the transport.
  • 1hr uncleanable debuff – Makes you look all gold and transparent.
  • Transport successful but you’re on some random rock high up in the sky. Nothing that a flying mount/goblin glider or hearth won’t fix though.
  • turns you into a chicken

OK, the last one isn’t that exciting but did you know that donning Burgy Blackheart’s Handsome Hat can break the chicken transformation? It’s very handy for a class who can’t transform since you can’t actually mount with the debuff. I’m told shapeshifting (except for the moonkin), metamorphosis (warlock) and Lichborne (DK) can all remove the soul effects.

Orc Transformation

Over the years my two other engineers have walked away with something more interesting but my favourite has to be my female undead rogue transforming into a male tauren during BC. I mean, what’s funnier than a stealthing tauren? I did take a couple of pics back then but that was in my pre-blogging days so unfortunately they don’t exist any more.

Area 52 transporter gadget

Kablamm, I think you should reimburse me the cost of the materials so I can try and get a malfunctioning transporter. Talk about a disappointing level of consistency. No? Then how about a trade? I’ll give you my Dimensional Ripper for your snazzy little controller to wear as an off-hand and we’ll call it even, ok?

What’s the most interesting malfunction combination you’ve had so far? Have you created an evil looking Sky Golem or dark Tyrael Charger?

For those non-aussies in the readership, here‘s where the title came from.

Let’s Celebrate

Let’s Celebrate

This morning I finally maxed out on engineering – woot! The guide I was following only indicated 1x Spirit of Harmony to level out the Pandaria requirement but that was dependant on whether I had any more spirits at my disposal. This ‘cheaper’ option forces you to make in excess of 20 something Thermal Anvils which happened to be the route I took with my pali but I definitely didn’t want to go down that road again.

Months later, I’m still left with 13 anvils so it was an easy decision to go the other way. It’s just a shame my bags were struggling with the overflow of mats. Just as well I also have a guild bank to use although if you saw it right now, you’d think a bomb had exploded.

The day I decided to drop enchanting for engineering involved a quick look through my bag to see what I could safely destroy. This consisted of a very short list indeed – my 400 and something dinosaur bones and my 4x Spirits of Harmony. Funnily enough, I ended up needing 6x Spirits of Harmony which proved more difficult to procure, once I realised the need for them.

Yesterday, I spent quite a bit of time trying to accumulate enough motes so I could complete my last 19 points of engineering. After making ONE Thermal Anvil for one point, I had to think of a good way to farm a lot more. I had already completed the Troves of the Thunder King scenario so I queued up for the last section of SoO but didn’t walk out with any (although I did get a weapon upgrade finally).

Eng staff

I also tried fishing up some Sealed Crates at the Darkmoon Faire but there weren’t many crates to be found. I resorted to farming mobs on the Timeless Isle and planting Songbell Seeds for a guaranteed harvest. At 3am, I was able to make Lord Blastington’s Scope of Doom closely followed by a Long-Range Trillium Sniper. With 9 points left to go, I typed up a game ticket asking for the return of my 4x Spirits of Harmony. Thankfully they were waiting in the mail as soon as I logged in this afternoon so I made another scope and Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling to finish.

So to celebrate my newest engineer, I’d like to find a home for my Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling. I realise this isn’t a new pet for many but for the few who don’t have one, let’s see what kind of creativity this could generate.

All you have to do is come up with a short story or image (may be painted/drawn) featuring the pet, myself and your toon. Don’t forget to leave your toon name and server with your entry.

Feel free to email your entries to my bubblesofmischief gmail account (particularly if it’s an image). I will post all the entires on 16 March giving you a week to get an entry in.

Please limit your entries to one.

Good Luck!
