Camel Hoarder
Scourer Achievement

Tonight I had a happy ending to my Mysterious Camel Figurine story. It took a total of 10 or so figurines before I found the right one. However this was over many, many months.

As I quickly scanned the area in an attempt to figure out where this latest location was, I was pleased to find it was pretty easy to spot being a new co-ordinate for me. I decided to kill a couple of mobs immediately surrounding the figurine before I felt comfortable about testing the camel. You know, makes for a better shot when you’re not fighting several things, etc. Mind you, expect to be almost standing on top of it before it activates, either turning to dust or summoning a mini sandstorm for ~6 seconds which teleports you to a phased version of the steam pools in Feralas. Unfortunately, before I realised what was happening, partially due to feeling stunned for a couple of seconds, I was already being sucked up into the sandstorm, so there’s no pic to show for it ;P

Here you’ll find a bunch of docile camels and the elite named Dormus the Camel Hoarder with ~225k HP. From the buff you get, you’ll have around 15mins to kill Dormus or else he despawns meaning you’ll have to find another camel to come here. Don’t worry though he’s an easy fight. Once defeated, he’ll drop the Reins of the Grey Riding Camel. Looting the mount will earn you a feat of strength – Scourer of the Eternal Sands + Title: < Name > “the Camel-Hoarder” (see first pic).

Dormus the Camel Hoarder

Dormus really likes his camels, check out his arms.

Dormus Achievement

For an 85 Elite, he’s easily killed

I finally have something to show for my four rounds of mount farming. One down, three to go.

Mysterious Camel Figurines Pre Patch 4.1

If you ever wondered what these camel figurines look like, here’s one I found back in February this year. They won’t all give you a chance at the mount though. Most turned into Crumbled Statue Remnants when I touched them. However, this dust I didn’t mind so much – not when it vendors for 25G :P

There are 2 item codes for this item:

1. (50410) – Item turns to dust; and
2. (50409) – Figurine teleports you to the steam pools in Feralas to kill an elite named “Dormus the Camel Hoarder” with ~225k HP. Once defeated, he’ll drop Reins of the Grey Riding Camel.

I used NPC Scan to find these little suckers. Now back when I found the first 3 earlier in the year they were easily targetable using the addon. Auto targeting the mob with a nice little icon on their head, just like any other rare.

Now after Patch 4.1 this is no longer the case. NPC Scan will still alert you when you’re close enough to the Figurine but trying to target the tiny camel from the pop-up will no longer do anything. This was proven a few weeks ago when flying in Uldum, my addon went off. Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble locating where it was.

Last night, however, I was in the area flying over the Temple of Uldum when NPC Scan went off again. Now mind you the addon made me jump because it was that loud but I was determined to find the statue this time ’round,  especially when it was the exact same area as before. Searching the area over the next few minutes gave no success so after some research I found one comment which really made the difference. If you turn on friendly nameplates the figurine will be a lot easier to pick up and by staying fairly low to the ground I was able to pick it up easily.

Mysterious Camel Figurines Post Patch 4.1

As you can see they have a slight sparkle to them but are still very small so easy to miss otherwise.

There seems to be only one figurine in the area at a time and have read that the spawn rate is between 5 – 22 hours. I’ve seen one 6hrs from the last spawn. It’s also been estimated that the ratio of spawns is one 50409 per every sixteen 50410. So if you haven’t seen either one yet, that’s a good reason why. Not to mention all the herbalists and miners frequenting the area.

Hopefully one day soon, I’ll be able to say I was teleported to the Steam Pools to fight Dormus and have a nice new mount to show for it… fingers crossed :)
