I’ve been a fan of atonement healing ever since it was introduced to the game. I’ve used it through heroics, raids and a lot of soloing but there have always been a couple of things that irk me. Now increasing the range to 40 yards will be great when in a group or raid but when I’m soloing or questing it annoys me when I see my heals or aegis pop up on a random person just because they are close enough, esp. when I could use the heal myself.
It’s not like these anonymous players will stop to help you if things get dire. Questing in an area with 20 other people is nothing unusual but if I’m at half health then I would hope the smart heal would go to me other than some random player in the vicinity.
There’s also been a few cases where I’ve been killing a champion and a player or two will hover in the area just to see if I die. Sure, don’t offer any assistance even though I see my DA proc on you…
But what about your heals going to the bloodworms, the mechanical dragonlings and my plants on the farm when I’m killing the virmen and birds. Surely I could use that heal more than my songbell… if only my farm dog did more than swim in my pond and dig around under the homestead – now that would be something.
I’d love to see Blizzard fix this so at least when soloing or in a group the heals just benefit the relevant members and not every Tom, Dick and Creepy.
This is more of a reference point for myself as I work my way though the Mists expansion.

I must admit I’m not a huge fan of the new Tier helm, it reminds me of a circus performer. Maybe it will grow on me like the Tier 12 helm did. When I first received it I was going to hide it (something I normally do unless I really like it); but when I did actually get it, I displayed the set in it’s entirety.
Now with the final raid out and new Tier up for grabs, here’s the list of gear I’m looking to acquire:
Head – Crown of the Corrupted Conqueror Dragon Soul, Warmaster Blackhorn (used for Cowl of Dying Light)
Neck – Petrified Fungal Heart Dragon Soul, Morchok
Shoulder – Shoulders of the Corrupted Conqueror Dragon Soul, Hagara the Stormbinder (used for Mantle of Dying Light)
Cape – Woundlicker Cover Valor Quartermaster (1,250 valor points)
Chest – Robe of Glowing Stone Dragon Soul, Morchok
Wrist – Bracers of the Banished Dragon Soul, Hagara the Stormbinder
Hands – Gauntlets of the Corrupted Conqueror Dragon Soul, Warlord Zon’ozz (used for Handwraps of Dying Light)
Waist – Vestal’s Irrepressible Girdle Valor Quartermaster (1,650 valor points)
Pants – Leggings of the Corrupted Conqueror Dragon Soul, Yor’sahj the Unsleeping (used for Legwraps of Dying Light)
Feet – Splinterfoot Sandals Valor Quartermaster (1,650 valor points)
Ring 1 – Signet of Suturing Dragon Soul, All bosses but Deathwing
Ring 2 – Band of Reconstruction Valor Quartermaster (1,250 valor points)
Trinket 1 – Windward Heart Dragon Soul, All bosses but Deathwing
Trinket 2 – Seal of the Seven Signs Dragon Soul, Warlord Zon’ozz
Main Hand – Maw of the Dragonlord Dragon Soul, Madness of Deathwing
Off-hand – Ledger of Revolting Rituals Dragon Soul, Ultraxion
Wand – Scintillating Rods Valor Quartermaster (700 valor points)
Drops according to source would be:
Neck – Petrified Fungal Heart
Chest – Robe of Glowing Stone
Pants – (Tier) Legwraps of Dying Light
Hagara the Stormbinder
Wrist – Bracers of the Banished
Shoulder – (Tier) Mantle of Dying Light
Trinket 2 – Seal of the Seven Signs
Hands – (Tier) Handwraps of Dying Light
Head – (Tier) Cowl of Dying Light

Ring 1 – (Shared Boss Loot) Signet of Suturing
Trinket 1 – (Shared Boss Loot) Windward Heart
Waist – Vestal’s Irrepressible Girdle
Feet – Splinterfoot Sandals
Ring 2 – Band of Reconstruction
Cape – Woundlicker Cover
Wand – Scintillating Rods

I admit that I used to find people who had several of the same class a little funny, esp. if those toons were on the same realm or even faction. My original toon started out as a Paladin back in the day when WoW first came out and I admit I didn’t know too much about specs at the time. Not long after that I created a NE Priest to help out my brothers toon. But after several alliance toons, I made my first Horde character. Several years and another expansion later, I made my trial human priest which led to my BE Priest – the main I still play today.
The thing I have realised lately is that I now have four priests. Not on various servers mind you; they are all on the same server! Two alliance and two Horde. My human trial which I managed to get to Rank 10 in PVP I’m still proud of. My two little priests were set of be a PVP twink (currently L27) and the other a Worgen as I wanted to see what the running wild thing was all about; among other things. I initially planned on doing this when the x-pac first came out but due to various circumstances has only just occurred.
So I’ve been trying to decide whether to re-level a Worgen so I don’t have another priest or just delete the two little toons and be done with it. I might just end up deleting the two little ones and doing a race change for my alliance toon. From Human > Draenei and now Worgen.
Update: Make that 3 Priests now as my Tauren Twink is no more…
Originally started by Miss Medicina so that smaller bloggers could get some exposure and share some healing experience; I’ve seen a few of these the last few days so I decided to do my own version for fun. So here goes:
What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer?
Cymre, Disc Priest (and occasional Shadow)
What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)
Raids 10 ideally, sometimes 25 and Heroics
What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why?
Penance, it’s a fast spell that can build up Grace stacks and doesn’t use up borrowed time.
What healing spell do you use least for your class and why?
Lesser Heal / Heal – shouldn’t need to explain
What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why?
Huge arsenal of tools to deal with various situations and “oh S@#!” moments. The fact that we are the only proactive healer in the game means we’re often the first line of defense against impending damage.
What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why?
Depending on whether you focus on raid heals or tank heals, haste can play a factor. Even with the best intentioned PS or shield/heal can be to no avail if the tank can’t manage their CD’s very well.
In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?
I’m often assigned to one of the MT’s, generally focusing on the tank group and throwing bubbles out on the rest of the raid when I can. However, I don’t necessarily feel that I need a particular assignment as we can go where needed whether it be the tank, tank group or raid.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why?
Healers that have more hots complement my spec more. I often 2-healed with a druid or shaman on 10’s.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why?
Used to be other priests, part holy, esp when they try to bubble your targets. Not so bad now when we can overwrite their weakened souls. Nowadays other disc priests for that reason. Luckily that’s not too often in a raid.
What is your worst habit as a healer?
Healing other targets who aren’t my assignment when I can sneak some in there.
What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing?
People who die in avoidable stuff when they just expect to get healed through it. I don’t heal stupid! I have better things to do with my mana. That includes shields that will be eaten up in a couple of seconds when you can’t manage to get on a pillar for Nef.
Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing?
I do. We offer something others cannot. While other healing classes have bonuses to healing and higher combat regen, we can manage our CD’s to the same effect.
What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?
Did we get through with no deaths? That to me is a great indication. I also follow Skada and WoLs.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?
That we just shield and top people up. We’re there to stop incoming damage and absorb what we can. I tend to think of it as preventing a premature death while the other healers can top them back up.
What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn?
What spell to use when.
It’s not just about spamming one or two spells. Use that huge arsenal we’ve been given.
If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?
First of all they probably won’t be looking at absorbs and healing in recount or Skada so will think my output is low.
Haste or Crit and why?
I generally take crit over haste since crits proc Aegis. My haste is generally pretty low but with the new gear out is slowly getting higher.
What healing class do you feel you understand least?
Since I’ve only really healed as a priest I’ll just say any of the others. Prob shammies most as I’ve never really played a shammie.
What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing?
Healbot, Ingela’s rapture and macroing any use trinkets to my penance or PoH.
Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?
Depends on my role but primarily it’s Int > Mast > Spi > Crit > Haste
