Martian Manhunter

I’ve been meaning to do this guy for a while now, especially since I’ve published the other founding members of the Justice League but one thing stopped me – the male orc model. As with other Supers, I’ve created his body using a number of layers. I think he currently wins the record for most layers used. I was hoping to use Thrall’s updated model in WMV but since he’s listed as an NPC, I couldn’t change his armour so after playing around with a few of the poses, here’s what I’ve come up with.

Martian Manhunter, also known as J’onn J’onzz and John Jones, is a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. A martian holocaust killed his wife and daughter, nearly driving him mad, until he was brought to Earth in an accident caused by scientist Saul Erdel. His natural abilities include super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, flight, shape-shifting, intangibility and telepathy.

Whatever I know about his character (and many others) I learnt from Smallville. Super episodes were always some of my favourites to watch. It’s a shame Batman and Wonder Woman didn’t make it into the series though.

His costume is almost made up entirely of cloth.

Green Arrow

Green Arrow is a vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology. Otherwise known as Oliver Queen, living in Star City as a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist turned outspoken liberal politician. He is the leader of Team Arrow; he has also been a member of the Justice League and the Outsiders.

It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a Super Sunday post so this Green Arrow draft sat in my folder for months where it remained… until now. I was a fan of this character in Smallville (even before I knew who he was) although I wasn’t a big fan of his costume at the time. His gadgets and weapon of choice kind of made up for it though as well as the actor they used to portray him.

Then with the new Arrow series, I’ve been able to watch the first two episodes and I’m liking what I see. David Nutter (who also directed Smallville’s pilot episode) wanted more of a darker undertone for the series – much like the Dark Knight movies – and the new costume certainly fits this idea.

Here’s the one I originally created based on the Smallville model, then later with an updated bow.

But with such a limited choice of bows in the game, I decided to wait until some new designs were added. A while ago, Cool linked this unique ranged weapon model which made me think of Green Arrow again so following the darker and harder-edged version of the new series, I gave it another go. Turns out the design didn’t quite fit with what I had in mind but feeling inspired, I had a play anyway.

Even though he doesn’t appear to have a distinct green tone to his costume in Arrow, I decided to use a brighter piece to finish it off.

Zatanna is a superhero and one of the greatest magic-users in the DC Universe. Her father is the legendary magician Zatara and she works hard to live up to his legacy. The traditional method of spell-casting she uses involves speaking words and sentences backwards. In addition to her career as a hero, she is also a very notable stage performer.

Initially, I was just going to highlight an item I managed to get yesterday from the Blingtron 4000. I couldn’t believe I finally had a top hat without having to faction and race change a worgen. My first thought was to create a simple High Society outfit, which changed to a magician but after a few screenshots, I thought of Zatanna. Again, a character I got to know from watching Smallville.

Green Lantern

Hal Jordan is the most well-known Green Lantern. He was the first earthman ever inducted into the Green Lantern Corps, and has been heralded as possibly the greatest Green Lantern of all time. Green Lantern is also a founding member of the Justice League of America. Hal has also been known as Parallax and the Spectre.

Info taken from the DC Comics Database

My first Green Lantern experience was from the Ryan Reynolds movie which I quite enjoyed, so I don’t know an awful lot about the character other than that :P

It was pretty tricky getting the right kind of items for this costume. The hero piece would have to be the Auchenai Tracker’s Hauberk  but as usual, a mixture of armour types were used. Too bad there aren’t any rings that can be displayed either.

Batman is the superhero protector of Gotham City, dressed like a bat he fights evil and strikes terror into the hearts of criminals everywhere. In his secret identity he is Bruce Wayne, billionaire industrialist and notorious playboy. Although he has no superhuman powers, he is one of the world’s smartest men and greatest fighters. His physical prowess and technical ingenuity make him an incredibly dangerous opponent. He is also a founding member of the Justice League and the Outsiders. Dick Grayson, originally Robin and Nightwing, is Wayne’s successor and they operate simultaneously as part of Batman Incorporated. Batman was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, first appearing in Detective Comics #27. (1939)

I admit that I used to watch the old Batman series with Adam West growing up, not that I’m a child of the 60’s but it was still a popular show back then. I wasn’t even aware that there was a Batman movie in 1966 (using the same cast) but here are some snippets from the movie.

It was a lot harder than I had anticipated creating a costume as there aren’t a lot of black items in the game (or a utility belt for that matter) but I love how the one I used looks like a bat where the buckle normally goes. I managed to create a couple of variations basing both sets around the Arc-Scorched Helmet.
