Mysterious Camel Figurine

Mysterious Camel Figurines Pre Patch 4.1

If you ever wondered what these camel figurines look like, here’s one I found back in February this year. They won’t all give you a chance at the mount though. Most turned into Crumbled Statue Remnants when I touched them. However, this dust I didn’t mind so much – not when it vendors for 25G :P

There are 2 item codes for this item:

1. (50410) – Item turns to dust; and
2. (50409) – Figurine teleports you to the steam pools in Feralas to kill an elite named “Dormus the Camel Hoarder” with ~225k HP. Once defeated, he’ll drop Reins of the Grey Riding Camel.

I used NPC Scan to find these little suckers. Now back when I found the first 3 earlier in the year they were easily targetable using the addon. Auto targeting the mob with a nice little icon on their head, just like any other rare.

Now after Patch 4.1 this is no longer the case. NPC Scan will still alert you when you’re close enough to the Figurine but trying to target the tiny camel from the pop-up will no longer do anything. This was proven a few weeks ago when flying in Uldum, my addon went off. Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble locating where it was.

Last night, however, I was in the area flying over the Temple of Uldum when NPC Scan went off again. Now mind you the addon made me jump because it was that loud but I was determined to find the statue this time ’round,  especially when it was the exact same area as before. Searching the area over the next few minutes gave no success so after some research I found one comment which really made the difference. If you turn on friendly nameplates the figurine will be a lot easier to pick up and by staying fairly low to the ground I was able to pick it up easily.

Mysterious Camel Figurines Post Patch 4.1

As you can see they have a slight sparkle to them but are still very small so easy to miss otherwise.

There seems to be only one figurine in the area at a time and have read that the spawn rate is between 5 – 22 hours. I’ve seen one 6hrs from the last spawn. It’s also been estimated that the ratio of spawns is one 50409 per every sixteen 50410. So if you haven’t seen either one yet, that’s a good reason why. Not to mention all the herbalists and miners frequenting the area.

Hopefully one day soon, I’ll be able to say I was teleported to the Steam Pools to fight Dormus and have a nice new mount to show for it… fingers crossed :)

Edit: My persistence finally paid off – Cymre the Camel-Hoarder.

Have… Have We Met?

If you’ve been diligent with The Protectors of Hyjal daily – where a group of four druid (or possibly one familiar NPC) will join you in Sethria’s Roost to help kill the elites – you might have seen all the NPCs needed for the Have… Have We Met? achievement. I must say though, my favourite has to be Nat Pagle. I mean, what’s cooler than a fisherman who travels by turtle and fights with a fishing pole?

Nat Pagle

Hemet Nesingwary

Hemet Nesingwary

Would you imagine Hemet riding anything other than a Wooly Mammoth? He also uses a Red Proto-Drake to fly.

Maximillian of Northshire

This one comes a pretty close second though, not sure what it is but something about him reminds me of Coolidge.

Chromie

Here’s a handy macro to use:

/tar linken
/tar chromie
/tar thassarian
/tar nat pagle
/tar mankrik
/tar hemet nesingwary
/stopmacro [noexists]
/wave

Just delete the relevant line when you manage to find each NPC.

Anyone have a different NPC who has been your favourite?

When Coolidge mentioned that he wanted me to go Shadow and be in my PVE gear I had a few ideas in mind; but when I saw him taking me through the Vashj’ir portal I knew exactly what he was planning. :)

One thing you will notice when you visit Vashj’ir is that there are several Whale Sharks in the area. We actually tried a couple of different ones before settling on the second one for the achievement. There are two that swim pretty close to each other in the Shimmering Expanse, around Nespirah. We ended up kiting the closer one to the surface since people seem to have the most success with that one. After a few attempts, we managed to get a hold of our resident Master Kiter – Aza for tips and assistance.

Some tricks to use:

  • The kiter must maintain threat on the shark or he will reset;
  • Try to maintain between 6-20 yards of the shark at all times;
  • < 6 yards will result in instant death = reset.
  • > 20 yards = reset.
  • Swimming backwards allows you to stay a pretty consistent distance from the target
  • Maintain the same level with him (actually slightly lower than his body) so you can maintain the same speed throughout.
  • Some mentioned using a range addon for this. We didn’t need it after following the above rules.

Before long we had a new kill and achievement to boot! Who cares that he doesn’t drop any loot…

Thanks Az
