Troves of the Thunder King

It’s no surprise that I love my weekly visits to the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. I get more excited when I see multiple keys on Cymre so I can get more chances at collecting more Elder Charms for my attempts. I’ve managed to reach the last room on several trips (depending on what my agenda is for that day) and have seen the treasure saurok multiple times as well.

The only thing that I can’t pre-plan is the number of Golden Treasure chests in the scenario. It seems that the days I focus on Golden Chests is the day RNG seems to roll against me. By now, I’m familiar with the usual locations scattered around the place so it’s just a matter of them being where I need them to be.

The other day I was set to kill the God-Hulk in the last room but missed out on killing him by literally a second or two when my time ran out. That was due to a misplaced trap that was oh so slightly off in the previous room causing me to waste time killing a statue before I could progress to the next room. As a result, I would have to wait two more weeks to try it again as I built up a stash of Elder Charms for my next attempt but a couple of days ago, I was ecstatic to find another key in my daily treasure cache allowing me to gain access to the scenario again – just to loot chests in preparation for next week.

This is where I was quite flabbergasted. I must say that I’ve run this scenario so many times (on various toons) that I can’t say that I’ve had such a successful run before.

Look at what I found today while doing my dailies in Ihgaluk Crag – a Trove of the Thunder King. In true Cymre Jones fashion, I was eager to see what kind of treasures it held after such a new and unexpected discovery:

On occasion, they may also contain a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen which allows entry to the solo scenario.

To  clarify the drop rates on certain items, Bashiok has stated:

You can only obtain one Key to the Palace of Lei Shen (aka treasure room) from any creature on the island, including the Isle of Thunder Rare Elites. Once you’ve already looted one off of a creature, no more will drop from creatures for your character that week. Additional keys can potentially drop from other select sources, but are extremely rare and not something you can try to farm.

I’m not sure if these treasure troves are unique like the Lost and Found artifacts but it appears that you can only loot one per week (per character). I showed Coolidge where the one I looted was and could not see it when he went to loot it later.

Key to the Palace

Earlier today I took part in killing the Haywire Sunreaver Construct, one of the new rare elites on the Isle of Thunder. I was able to loot a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen which allows entry to the solo scenario.

To start, head over to the Bleak Hollow cave (51.4, 46.2) and talk to Taoshi. Once you’ve accepted her quest, you’ll be able to enter the scenario.

As you progress though the rooms you’ll have access to various chests like Mogu Treasure Chests and Golden Treasure Chests while trying to avoid obstacles along the way. You can use the speed boosts around the place by stepping into the blue runes and buy some handy items located at the entrance once you’ve teleported inside or off your faction vendor (or on the ship) to increase your chances of success.

With a 5min time limit, don’t waste too much time trying to access some of the more difficult chest placements. For this reason, I don’t have any images from inside the scenario (which is the same thing that happened to Tome just one night earlier). The first room will have a series of small spiders, lightning AoE and mogu statues which come to life when opening the chest they are guarding. Once you reach the second room, you’ll have to watch elemental tiles, glowing circles and roaming eyes.

By then end of it, I was able to loot:

Once the timer is up, you’re teleported out of the dungeon to Taoshi’s location where she hands you a Burial Trove Key as a reward. This allows you to open one of Lei Shen’s Burial Troves in the room, unless you’re lucky enough to loot another one in the dungeon.

It appears that you can run the scenario as often as you like, if you’re lucky enough to loot multiple keys. I was able to run it twice in two days after receiving another key in my daily Sunreaver cache but the quest to receive a Burial Trove Key is a one time only thing. Any others with have to be looted from chests inside the scenario or talking to Tenwu in the last room before your time expires.
