Nat's Fishing Chair

Learning from the Best

16

Ever since Nat sent me on the quest for Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme all those years ago, I never expected to be where I am now. Back then, I wasn’t even high enough to quest in Feralas so had no idea where the Verdantis River was but a friendly Alliance player noticed my level and asked if I needed help after killing something I had aggroed. Luckily for me, they were nice enough to lead me to the river before wishing me luck and riding off. For my trouble, Nat rewarded me with his Lucky Fishing Pole but that has long been replaced.

As the years passed, I would visit him from time to time on various alts but after finding his measuring tape in ZG, I was happy to pay him another visit.

Nowadays, you’ll find him in Krasarang Wilds as the Anglers Quartermaster but as an added perk, he now has a friendship bar. In order to gain rep with him, you’ll have to fish up three different types of rare fish each day – the Flying Tiger Gourami, Mimic Octopus and the Spinefish Alpha. I found they were a pretty common catch from both open water and pools with all three giving 660 rep (inc. guild perk).

Once you’ve achieved Learning from the Best, you’re eligible to buy Nat’s Hat which was a welcome upgrade to my Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat. The upgraded lure will also come in handy for those still collecting the four Tiny Carp.

Nats-Hat

Not long after I had purchased the hat, I noticed he had sent me some mail. I admit I was only expecting a letter but I probably should have known better since The Tillers all send you some sort of perk for your farm. So imagine my surprise when I saw Nat’s Fishing Chair sitting in the mailbox. :D

I spent some time trying it out in various locations, including Nagrand and the Jade Forest.

But I felt it only fair that I visit Nat where it all began in the Marsh.

At least now I have a comfy chair to sit in if I ever feel the need to fish.

Mantid Archaeology

The new branch of Archaeology has uncovered a number of Mantid dig sites, all within Townlong Steppes and Dread Wastes. Although I think I’ve found my new least favourite dig site…

New Mantid sites aren’t that hard to come by as I flew past a new dig just a couple of days ago. However, the Quartermaster in the Seat of Knowledge can supply you with a Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator for the price of a Restored Artifact. As long as you have the locator in your bag, you’ll only get Mantid digs for the duration of a day (real-time). I was lucky and managed to receive a Pristine Artifact on my second completion. Before long, I uncovered the Sonic Pulse Generator which I was aiming to get for my hunter, directly followed by the Mantid Sky Reaver which I’ve given to my Paladin.

I’m not normally a fan of guns partially due to the sound they make (less addons the better) but I love the sonic pulse that’s released when fired and the only sound you hear is a soft click. Now all I need is a scope!

Master of All

Maxing out all the professions to 600, turned out to be a pretty epic feat, although it was fairly easy getting all but ONE to max level just by levelling a handful of toons on the same server. In fact, my five main Horde characters, work so well together, I’m pretty self-sufficient with Coolidge filling in all the Blacksmith and Engineering holes.

However, this changed somewhat when I saw the new achievement added in Mists. As one who has always worked hard at her personal achievements, I knew it was just a matter of time before I got it so with ten professions covered between my five level 90s, I was stuck on Blacksmithing with no skilled toon to help. My first thought was to drop ENG on another alt (on another server) but then I would have to level her up and I wasn’t too keen on doing that.

In the end, I decided to drop enchanting on my other priest so I could start power levelling her as a Blacksmith – since she was my last 85, it proved my best option. The only problem was, I didn’t have a miner on that side, that’s where Cool came in. He was able to supply me with all my smelting needs (at least past my level 40 something miner on Alliance). I resorted to buying most of my ore, bars and other raw materials from the AH, trying to sell whatever I could to make some money. Thankfully I had a number of duplicate pets which helped but when we actually started levelling our original priest/pali combo, it was even easier.

Master of All

Today we even reverted our Draenei back to Human so that when the racial improvements are implemented in-game, we’ll be ready… however long that takes to happen.

So a big thanks to Coolidge for mining all the ghost iron needed for my last 100 points and double achievement. It’s just a shame I had levelled past the first 450 points or so before I had read about the new changes coming in 5.2. For those who don’t know, you’ll be able to level from 1-600 BS just by using Ghost Iron. It doesn’t make the achievement any less worth it though.

On another note, I wish it were possible to relearn an old profession to the level you had before (inc. rare recipes) for a fee and a lockout timer, maybe no sooner that two years or something so people don’t just relearn a profession whenever it suits them.
