Pet Battle System
Pet Additions – 5.3
4With Patch 5.3 we have 18 new pets to collect. As always, this is more of a reference post which will be updated with images as I collect them.

Wild Pet
The Unborn Val’kyr is the only wild pet to come out this patch and may be found all over Northrend. Capturing (or killing) one will affect the spawn rate of another appearing somewhere else on the continent.
The Unborn
14It’s no surprise that the first thing I did today was go in search of an Unborn Val’kyr. I’ve loved the look of them ever since I first saw them in the game. The first time I saw Hildana Deathstealer, Cool and I were in the middle of one of our arena fights in the northern part of Jotunheim. I excitedly told Cool who managed to pull the rare as we were killing the combatant in the ring.
These days, holy priests can look just like one if they use the minor glyph of The Val’kyr. For me though, this is even better!
I managed to find her at my third location when checking known spawn spots although Mumper did confirm that they could be caught anywhere in Northrend and not just focus on set spawn points like others have suggested.
As you can see, I found mine in Sholazar Basin although when I arrived, another player was standing right next to her so I stayed where I was. After a few seconds, I noticed that they had just forfeit the match as she disappeared and reappeared within secs so I proceeded to fly over and engage her with my pre-formed team.
Within a minute, she was mine and I didn’t even have to bring my Turnip into play. Looking at her now she’s just a gorgeous specimen and even though she was poor quality, I had no qualms about using my Flawless Battle-Stone on her – which I only managed to get the night before. Talk about great timing… not to mention the Marked Flawless Battle-Stone you receive as a reward for The Longest Day.
By the way, I just finished this achievement tonight and I’m glad I never have to do that again. Although the three Flawless Mechanical, Aquatic and Critter Battle-Stones were nice but I have yet to receive the Marked Stone as a reward. Note that the Fabled Pets have all been buffed since the devs considered them too weak on first release so be prepared to try more than once.
My Top Ten Companion Pets
10With so many pets in my collection right now, I wasn’t sure if I could pick ten favourites but I thought I should have a go as there are some that stand out after all these years. Originally proposed by Swenyola here is my contribution in order of play.
1. Tranquil Mechanical Yeti
Back in vanilla, this was a gift from Fatboyflash when he found out how much I liked his and made another.
2. Hyacinth Macaw
I can’t tell you how much time I spent farming the pirates in Stranglethorn so when JKo offered to farm one for me, he wasn’t kidding when he said he was really lucky with pet drops. I still can’t believe he farmed mine in MINUTES!
3. Pandaren Monk
One of many gifts Coolidge has bought for me over the years but may possibly be my favourite. The Celestial Steed comes a close second though, even though it’s a mount.
4. Magical Crawdad
Considering this took FIVE Mr Pinchys to collect, how could I not include it.
5. Sand Scarab
I’ve been lucky to receive a few gifts from Arvash but this may be my favourite after my love of Uldum.
6. Landro’s Lil XT
The venue of one of my weekly hangouts (when I can), this was a Winter Veil gift from Herculano.
7. Guardian Cub
As part of my Secret Santa gift from Angelya last year.
8. Lil’ Tarecgosa
I was so excited about collecting this pet but we never managed to finish it in the Guild but thanks to the generosity of those in Shadow Rising, I can now say I have one.
9. Sunreaver Micro-Sentry
After trying to farm this for a while, Luxy surprised me by telling me she had an extra one.
10. Tuskarr Kite
One of my newest pets, the Tuskarr Kite was a recent birthday present from Navi.
There are a few others which come to mind like the Crimson Whelping which I farmed for weeks during vanilla or the Vampiric Batling dropped by Prince Tenris Mirkblood as part of the Scourge Invasion in 2008.
Thanks to the generosity of all my friends who have helped me on my quest to collect all the non-combat and battle pets over the years.
