Gamescom Reveal

With a record number of people leaving WoW, taking a break, or not having much to do these days, it’s left many people wondering what’s in store for those of us still around. If you’re lucky enough to attend gamescom in Germany next week, you’ll be able to do just that as the new World of Warcraft expansion is revealed.

Join us Thursday, August 6 at 9 a.m. PDT for a special World of Warcraft event streamed live from gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany — where we’ll be unveiling the next chapter of the World of Warcraft saga.

That means we’ll be able to catch it on Friday from 1.45am AEST for those of us on this side of the world.

Given that Bashiok’s been posting a number of screenshots lately, this may prove be some sort of clue, especially since he’s leaving Blizzard.

In the meantime, there are a lot of ideas on what the next expansion could be. Here are some of the more interesting ones:

  • the Burning Legion
  • the return of an Old God
  • the return of Illidan
  • Azshara
  • Zul the Dark Prophet
  • the Emerald Dream
  • Shadow Hunter/Stalker – new class
  • Corgis Unleashed

When Vash’ir was first introduced back in Cataclysm, I was initially excited by the thought of a whole underwater zone. However, this soon became tiresome as I actually quested through it. While the Emerald Dream sounds like an interesting idea, Blizzard have stated it may be more feasible to make it one zone and not develop it as a whole expansion. Personally, I’d like to see more of the Titans but I don’t see that happening.

For all we know, Bashiok may just be reminiscing or it could just be a future Hearthstone expansion.

What do you think the next expansion will be?

  1. I think its going to have to tie in with the movie to catch all the potential players who are interested after seeing the movie.
So I think it will be another time travel expac where we go back to Azeroth and somehow we’re still back in the past getting to meet all the heros from the big screen.

    • Yep, I would love to see that happen. If not an expansion then some pre-event that ties in with the movie.

  2. Like Zeirah I can’t imagine it won’t relate somehow to the movie, I’m hoping anyway. And I lucked out! That’s at lunch time for me so I’ll be able to watch.
