A few days ago, I completed my first challenge mode with Cool, Thunderspank, one of Thunderspank’s guildies and Oathblade. At the time, I was really excited to try Scholo but Gate of the Setting Sun was suggested as good starting point so I entered with a set based vaguely on the gear list I posted several days before.
It was all about the anticipation. I had even gone into Scholo several times, in the week leading up to our first encounter, just to see my stats – until I remembered I could go into Proving Grounds instead for the bonus reforger.
Initially I was all set to go in as disc but at one stage it looked like I would be dpsing instead. Sadly, nothing eventuated with that idea so I was excited to heal our first dungeon after all. We went through the dungeon on heroic first since we hadn’t played with the other three before. This gave us a nice practice run of how we wanted the actual run to go as well as getting to know the playstyle of the others before trying it for real.
I will say it was challenging to say the least, especially on that first big pull but even after a few mishaps with bombs and the lift playing up for a couple of people, we managed to walk out with silver. The group wasn’t ideal, particularly for the last boss but it was still nice to zone out with three achievements on our first day.
Unfortunately, nothing really happened after that so Cool and I have organised another three players to finally complete these challenges with. Some people have the opinion that gear isn’t all that important when it comes to challenge modes and if I just wanted to walk out with gold, that’s probably true. However, after completing the initial set of gold challenges, I plan on getting the best times I can so why not get all the items I can to help with that objective?
Over the past few days, I’m happy to say I’ve collected a few from my list although killing the same bosses 10 times just to get a drop is very monotonous. Take the Frostborn Wristwraps as an example. They drop from Megaera in the Throne of Thunder so it’s not too bad killing one other boss before getting to the one I need but it’s painful getting the the double whammy from low RNG and then getting the wrong enchantment when the right item finally drops.
So far I’ve had the mastery, expertise/hit and haste but no crit drop as yet. Kind of funny when the crit variant is apparently the most common out of the four. I’m holding the other three in my bag just hoping the next one will be crit but who knows how long that will take – especially at the expense of my precious bag space.
At least Luxy now knows why I’m always in the Throne of Thunder :P
A while ago, I created this Justice League banner after featuring the last original member in my Super Sunday series. It turned out to be pretty popular on both twitter and facebook so I’m posting it here again.
I always planned to make one for the Avengers if I ever featured all of the characters but I wasn’t that interested in posting Black Widow or Hawkeye. However, I had still completed a lot of Marvel characters so I figured it may be fun to make a banner just for them.
One of my favourite scenes in the Avengers movie involves the big fight scene where the camera pans around each member so with server maintenance happening, I spent the better part of the evening going through my old costumes and creating a couple of new ones.
I have to say, it turned out a lot better than my previous attempt.
It all started when Cool asked what set he should use on his latest doodle. Since I don’t really know the Mage sets that well, I headed over to Draynee’s Mog Companion site and found the Tempest Regalia set to be quite unique. At the same time, I don’t really do much on my mage so her gear isn’t really gemmed or enchanted (short of the tailoring ones) but I was curious to see how well I could solo Black Temple.
As I started with the first boss, I wondered if I would still get spiked since I had my frostberry with me. It appears you don’t – unlike the MC’s on the Kael’thas Sunstrider fight. Now I really didn’t have any trouble with the place until I reached The Illidari Council. After my first wipe, I had to change my strategy a little, opting to spellsteal the buff off the mage and then focus on the Pali until I could spellsteal the Mage again. The fight still took a while as my mirrors came up for a second time but I was happy to see the second piece of my tier drop before heading up to the final boss.
I’ve killed Illidan many, many times but never alone. He usually dies pretty quick so I don’t often have a good opportunity to take pics of him when he’s hovering in the air. Today I wanted to change that.
Yeah… big mistake (especially after he throws his warglaives) :P
I didn’t realise how much the elementals hurt especially when you’re taking pictures of the sky so I tried standing next to one blade and DPSing the opposite elemental but I wasn’t able to kill him fast enough. After a second wipe, I logged onto my main to cut myself some gems and a meta netting me a nice stat boost. I ended up standing in the middle of the circle allowing me to kill both elements a lot easier. As expected, I received the achievement to say I had completed the raid.
However, I wasn’t expecting to see this in the loot window. Cool and I were trying to get the set for my newly boosted rogue so I was kind of bummed to see it here on a character who can’t even wield it but that wasn’t the end of it.
As I looted the item, I saw this…
Say what? The achievement only requires the ‘owner’ of a set of warglaives but note I only ventured in there for the first time today meaning the one Coolidge looted a couple of years ago must be the other half!!
How exciting to have another Guild Edition legendary achievement completed.
Now to see if I can get the other pieces from Hyjal.
After deciding to finally go for the Priest Challenge Mode set, I’ve been looking at what I can do to improve my levels of success. There seems to be a lot of material at our disposal which makes it a lot easier going into these for the first time.
Some guides seem to favour spirit over more crit and haste but for easy reference, here’s what I’ll be focussing on as a starting point. The following table was listed as BIS so I’ll probably just use the items I have readily available to me. As a new engineer, I never made the goggles so that will the first piece I’ll work on. From there, I’ll adjust accordingly.
Wish me luck!
Having seen January Jones’ character in the latest X-Men film, I have to say I found her character quite cool to say the least. From what I could gather, she’s almost as powerful as Professor X.
Emma Frost ascended to the upper echelon of the business world based on her intelligence, drive, and personal charm. She possesses strong telepathic talents and a flexible organic diamond form which gives her superhuman strength, protects her from most forms of physical injury and able to withstand extreme temperatures. I happened to come across the paladin-only Challenge Mode belt after I had pretty much designed an all-cloth costume but I thought it would make a nice touch since she eventually joins the X-Men. In the end, I used the top half of her costume from the Marvel: Avengers Alliance game on Facebook.
It’s been a while since I’ve had this much fun adding all the elements especially her diamond skin which is similar to what you see in the movie.
For the in-game version of diamond form, the Aqua Jewel comes pretty close though.
Be sure to catch up on the rest of my Super Sunday series.
