Last night, I was surprised to find I’d been nominated for the Liebster Award by Reihyou over at Mana Tide Totem. Now if you’re not sure what a Liebster Award is, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Here are the rules:
1. If you’ve been nominated for a Liebster award, thank the person who nominated you, and post a link back to their blog.
2. Display the award on your blog.
3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award (who have less than 200 followers).
6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
7. List these rules in your post. Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
8. Inform the people/blogs that you’ve nominated them for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it.
So here we go:
What inspired you to become a blogger?
I had been reading several blogs but wasn’t sure if I wanted to create one myself so I decided to use our Guild site web journal as a stepping stone to see how I liked it. It seemed like a great opportunity to interact with people sharing a common interest and was encouraged by Navimie to make a post for Blog Azeroth’s Thanksgiving event back in 2011. It was really tough pushing that publish button as the content of that post became more personal than I anticipated.
What was the first character you raided with? Which raid was it? Do you still use this character as your main?
Tallys, my tauren hunter back in vanilla. I’m not sure if it was MC but it was certainly the most memorable. We were stuck on Luci for the longest time. When BC came out, my hunter was retired for my Blood Elf priest Cymre although I would say she’s one of my two main alts.
If you could instantly be knowledgeable and proficient with any class/spec, what would you pick and why?
Probably still my hunter, I strived when playing the minority specs, just to prove to myself they were still viable. This included BM and Disc when both were unpopular.
If you could live in any virtual gaming world, which one would you choose?
Azeroth – no question.
What would you do if Blizzard shut down WoW permanently? Would you play another MMO or game?
I would be so sad to see a game I had invested so much time and effort into close it’s virtual loading screens forever but it’s one of the reasons I’ve documented everything on my blog. Just like my RL photo albums, this is my WoW equivalent. I’m not really sure if I’d play another one, I’ve never really been interested in any others but you never know.
If you could change anything about the class you play in WoW, what would you change and why?
The ability to use or transmog whips in-game – I mean it’s a Cymre Jones signature piece.
If you could pick any job in the gaming industry, what would it be?
I love seeking rares and treasures around the world so I would love to design those.
Are there any bloggers out there who you aspire to be like? What is it about them that you love?
It’s great to see so many bloggers who have stood the test of time and still have a loyal readership. Names which come to mind are Navimie and Alternative Chat. There’s also Tome who often writes with humour and Kamalia with her mogging prowess.
What is the oldest screenshot you have in your WoW Screenshots Folder? What is the story behind it?
I’ve posted my earliest pic before although I’m not entirely sure if it was since a lot of my pics were edited back then. Here’s the earliest unedited one I have in my folder right now. Just another pic of Coolidge trying to kill me back in 2009.
What is your favourite in-game memory of WoW?
There are so many but it’s usually, with Coolidge, testing our limits like finding those rare elites in-game as you level but one that stands out in particular was going into BRD back in late vanilla, farming mobs while it was still challenging with 2 people.
Eleven random facts:
- I love marzipan
- Enjoy aromatherapy
- Only order pizza for home delivery
- Have quite an extensive candle collection, especially beeswax and novelty candles, like my wizard which is one of a kind
- I also have several dragons including a painted vase, a decorative bottle, candlestick holder, novelty candle and figurine.
- Follow the less is more philosophy, esp with makeup and jewellery
- I prefer wearing natural fibres due to my sensitive skin and neutral colours
- I love watching sci-fi and vampire movies as well as those romantic drama series.
- I tend to choose ocean/beach themes although I don’t like swimming too much, go figure!
- I can’t wear pierced earrings because my ears get infected – even gold is an issue
- Yoga is my preferential form of exercise
Ok, as these things go, the longer you leave it, the harder it is to find people to nominate so here are my selections.
Now for the questions.
- What is your earliest memory in WoW?
- What is your favourite activity when playing?
- What is your best WoW memory?
- If you could have any title in WoW, what would it be?
- What is one thing in-game you could not live without?
- What is your favourite item in-game and why?
- Who was the first character you created and do you still play them?
- If you could design any transmog piece, what would it be and why?
- Who inspired you to start blogging?
- What is the first thing you’ll do when WoD becomes live?
- What was your biggest noobish mistake?
Have fun :)
Ah, the Monstrous Spineclaw, what a painful rare to spawn. Considering the fact I’ve been trying to spawn this elusive creature consistently over the last few weeks makes for a very boring grind indeed. I suspected the Spineclaw Crab would be the last item I’d need for this mother of an achievement but it also proved to be the only thing that kept me going. Just look at that drop rate – 1.74% according to WoWHead. I just wonder how much of the player population that actually counts since it’s only as accurate as the member base allows (my latest upload was only a minute ago).
Since the Monstrous Spineclaw can appear anywhere an Ancient Spineclaw can, server restarts offer a great opportunity to see one in the first set of spawns. This can be anywhere along the coast between the Misty Strand/Three Breeze Terrace juncture and the Croaking Hollow. If I logged in to find my favourite farming spot filled with Ancient Spineclaws but otherwise deserted, I would head up the coast on my Azure Water Strider using a Scuttler’s Shell to travel unhindered.
Now this is what you’d like to see, too bad I only saw it happen once. I killed the Monstrous Spineclaw only to see it spawn right next to the previous spawn spot just a moment before. It would have been amazing to see a pet drop right there but that would require the kind of luck I just didn’t have. I ended up buying mine from the AH and even bought one for Luxy when the Isle first came out. I would estimate the number of kills to be around 40 which is still painful for a low kill number – it can literally take hours between sightings.
But today it happened.
After killing crabs for three hours straight, I saw a skull in the water. As I raced over to engage the creature, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was it. There are usually only two or three items to loot but this one had FOUR! I noticed the Spineclaw Crab for about a second before it was autolooted into my bag. That’s when the achievement popped so I knew I wasn’t seeing things.
I can’t believe it finally dropped!
After 2+ weeks of dedicated farming and enough crab meat to feed all Oceanic servers combined, I can finally say after seven long months – I’m officially done with the Timeless Isle.
Not surprisingly, this is still the least popular exploration achievement on GuildOx with only 0.079% of the population having completed it so I’m glad to say I’m one of the few who did it. Now I can focus on other things, like who I’m going to use my 90 boost on, that weapon, mechbuilder overalls, the scholo rare…
I just noticed this comes exactly one month before my birthday. Pretty interesting timing if you ask me.
Several days ago, Jonathan LeCraft tweeted something very interesting:
This pint-sized trainer looks familiar. She might just visit your garrison in the future
Check out this Gilnean child with her epic looking Diablo team. While many can relate to having only the Treasure Goblin in their collection, I was excited to see both Mini Tyrael and Mini Diablo on the PTR a while ago. I just didn’t have the heart to level them. Talk about a dream team.
TheCrafticus was even asking for names, so what about Scrooge, Justice and Terror?
Today there was even some engineering news. When asked if we’d be getting another Blingtron for WoD, TheCrafticus responded:
Yes. Engineers will be able to construct a new Blingtron (new gifts), and it will fight other Blingtrons to the death. Savage!
I must admit, I was quite intrigued by this and was left wondering what materials we’d need to craft it. Here’s his response:
I could tell you, but it wouldn’t make a lot of sense without more context. It will be difficult, but it won’t be permanently destroyed if it dies in a Bling-fight.
With some concern about possible exploits like players of the other faction dropping several to demolish yours, it will only be:
Same faction. It will be a free-for-all. Idea is to grant a bonus to the creator of a winning Blingtron. We’ll keep an eye on the exploits — the bonus may just be bragging rights.
So what about a new style of teleport:
Wormhole Centrifuge: Pick two locations from a list. You will get sent to one. We don’t want it to be a perfect teleport. It will be useful half the time, and that’s just about right for engineering.
When asked if it could ever go wrong and teleport you elsewhere:
Nope, but you might be a sheep. Or on fire. Or both.
Hmm, maybe today I’ll finally get to change into something… *fingers crossed.
Now for mount lovers, when asked if there would be anything new for WoD:
Engineers recently got the Sky Golem, so probably not going to have a brand new mount with WoD.
I can’t say I really mind about the mount, we did get three this expansion and that’s just from engineering.
I’ve been travelling a lot between ZG, Grom’gol, Loch Modan, Scholo and the Dark Portal lately. So much so, I’ve been getting a lot of new Silver Dragon sightings. There are others I’ve collected over the past few months but they sit in a folder waiting to be edited and uploaded. Since so many were added post-Cata, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to add them into my current zone collections but here’s what I’ve been seeing lately.
I was particularly happy to see this rare since he’s been missing from my Northern Stranglethorn post for over a year.
These next three in Western Plaguelands are in close proximity to each other although I wasn’t expecting to see a huge parasite in the lake around Scholo. Eww.
One of the new exotic pets found in Burning Steppes.
Both of these beasts are native to Arathi Highlands although Chops may be found along the zone border.
Now the rare I’d like to see the most is Doctor Theolen Krastinov in Scholo. I’ve been checking every day but still no luck. I’ll just add that to the list with the Spineclaw drop, the mace from Garrosh, a transformation (finally), and the mechbuilder overalls which Cool was kind enough to draw in chibi/Astroboy form.
With a list like that, surely my unlucky streak has to break soon.
This week it’s a mini post for Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. The following artist’s ‘Real Life’ series features many Disney characters but I think Ariel is my favourite.
Even though it’s a pretty simple outfit, I would have to say her trademark is really her hair. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any pet biscuits on any of my high toons and the carpet was limited to my tailor.
Tonight, I’ve added some of the elements I wanted to last night.
Thank you for choosing “Magic Carpet” for all your travel needs. Don’t stand until the rug has come to a complete stop. Thank you. Goodbye, now. Goodbye. Goodbye. Thank you. Goodbye.
Initially I was going to use my Kirin Tor Familiar for the genie but after a full circuit of tamers I didn’t get any pet biscuits in any of the bags. As it turns out, I think the guy behind me seems more convincing.
A lot better than yesterday’s attempt anyway.
