The Case of the Little Black Ram

It’s a bit like this every time I see a pet I’m after in the wild, especially when I’m trying to upgrade all my uncommon and lower pets in my collection. You know the feeling, there’s an abundance of Little Black Rams in Loch Modan but you’re looking for those three little words in blue. So you fly around the periphery, scouring the hills for a level 3-6 beast.

If you’re lucky, your ram will be out in the open and on top of a hill but on occasion you’ll see something like this…

Ram obstructed

The ‘Interact with Target’ won’t always save you so it’s best to remove them from the grid to prompt another spawn in a better, accessible location. This also prevents the critter number in a given area from capping out so you’re bound to get a rare eventually.

It’s often a time-consuming process so patience and perseverance is required. In fact, it took several trips and various times of the day to find my rare but how sweet it is when you do.

battle spawn

Your eyes widen, you engage the beast (this usually includes a little fist pump) and start battling. Unless you’re a beginner levelling your first pets, a Terrible Turnip is a must to use for their Weakening Blow ability. You can just hit the first ability and be ready for an easy capture. However, if you’re going after a medium level pet or higher, remember to avoid using Leech Seed because the Elemental damage may well kill the pet you’re trying to capture. This is especially annoying since the demise of the pet in a battle means it won’t respawn if you forfeit to try again – so just be mindful of that fact.

Rare Black Ram

Little Black Ram

Woot! What can I say? Good Friday ended up being pretty productive with several rare upgrades and another Tiny Carp making the Tiny White Carp the last to collect.

  1. It seems like they reserve this spawning behavior for unique pets. I’ve never had an issue fighting say, prairie dogs or rabbits, but running around Maraudon for a couple hours for rare shale hatchlings last week involved a lot of avoiding walls & ground objects. Blehhh.

    • Yep, the shale hatchlings in Maraudon weren’t one of my happier memories (until I noticed you can get some in Deepholm).

    • Hey, good luck with them. The white one seems to be the hardest so I’ll just have to be persistent until I get it. Better get a snack ready…

    • Thx so much :D

Cool found that GIF a while ago. I was planning to use it for the Qiraji Guardling but this seemed more appropriate.
