Favourites Over None

This week’s Shared Topic was brought to us by Mataoka who wrote:

A few weeks ago, I noticed logging onto some characters seemed to be more irksome than others, it dawned on me that there were a few who never, ever seemed to be a chore to play. My question is, (and yes, you need to have more than one character over level 1) which of your characters do you always look forward to “seeing?” But the real question is why? Perhaps think of this from a role playing perspective, that this character has a personality, play style and demeanor that inevitably just works. I’d love to meet them!

Priest creation

It’s no question that Cymre is my pride and joy in the game. She was gathering achievements even before they were popular in a Guild who didn’t really focus on them back then. It was something that I took a lot of pride in doing, while working on my own personal milestones. I never bragged about my achievements but it was something that made me smile knowing that I could put so much effort into something and see it showcased in a journal.

Cymre loves to explore whether it’s a new continent, area or documenting interesting places in WoW. She’s also a completionist opting to collect all the recipes and designs for her professions. An avid pet collector, she gathered all the bought pets available in-game (which started back on my original hunter) so when they became account-wide, she ended up with a lot of duplicates.

For those aware of her transmog and costumes designs, it’s no wonder she has a lot of bag issues with the amount of costume changes she goes through or the odd item that’s been removed from the game – especially in the last few expansions, she’s accumulated quite a number of them.

My hunter will always hold a special place in my heart as she was my very first 60 and the only character I really played until BC came out. I still love collecting those rare pets though – which is reflected in my full stable of unique companions.

Hunter pet and Tiny Shale Spider

All of my other alts have proven skilled at various professions so that I’m as self-sufficient as possible. This goes back to the days when I was on a US server and often the only one on in the Guild.

My mage is great for offering free sustenance and ports that come so easily to her. But she’s also my tailor which comes in handy for my priest.

As a druid, Tals has a knack for herbing and her ability to change forms with ease is hard to ignore.

Then there’s my pali who’s often used as my plate-wearing twin, although she could also be described as Cym’s hard-hitting sister.

  1. I don’t remember ever seeing your Mage before, she’s lovely. I knew about your Hunter too but when I see you in my head you’re always Cymre in the Queen of the Nile outfit!

    • My mage used to be a BE as well but Cool wanted to play something different so we changed our pair to goblins. If I could, all my toons would be BE’s :P

I love the way you see Cym though <3

  2. My Priests pretty much always make me happy to see. Tumunzahar because he is definitely an extension of self, though he’s all the good parts so to speak.

Paramita I just enjoy, and really would like to get her many more levels and do as much with her Horde side as I do with Saintvache. Ok, perhaps more than that because even he’s getting a little dusty.

I love seeing Siori because I just feel as though I nailed her look perfectly with her transmog. The only thing I have yet to do with her is get her legendaries. I really should put together a sap run at some point.

After that pretty well all my Tauren make me happy. Oddfodder (Engineer goggled fellow in my header) is the one that makes me laugh no matter what, so he’ll always have a place.

Truth be told, almost all my characters make me happy -it’s just that I’m sometimes in a rut as to what I want to actually do with them. :)

    • Course, had I read that first line, I would have realized this was a shared topic and not you throwing it out there. *facepalm*

  3. Tallys is always my favourite for sentimental reasons but Cymre is my hero in terms of her look, her outfits and everything!

  4. I really expected account-wide achievements to reduce the importance of achi-collecting characters… and maybe their uniqueness too. It doesn’t seem to have happened, though. I guess being a collector becomes an indelible part of a character, whether they’re collecting for themselves… or for the hive. With Cym in particular, she must have a lot of stories to go with her achi-hunting antics – most of them recorded!

    • When I first started collecting achievements I wasn’t blogging back then so maybe it would have been a bit different but I have acknowledged the ones I’ve been most proud of. I’m a little sad that some are account wide though as I’d prefer to have a few which are only recognised on that toon (not counting mounts)

      • Yeah, the only character-specific title I have is Blood Guard (and Knight-Lieutenant, actually, but the Alliance don’t count :p) and I really wished the Relic Hunter title in particular was the same way. It was such an epic trek for my priest, feels like the other characters should have to make similar journeys to earn it too.
