It’s obviously a side effect of using some danged Gnome Engineering device that failed. The Bronze Dragonflight will be knocking on someone’s door soon.

I never thought much about it, but there are very few laundry facilities in Azeroth. About all I can think of is a certain Water Elemental in a bucket in Dalaran. Probably a spin off of mailboxes. We send our laundry out and it comes back to our bags like magic.
