It’s Winter Time

Thanks to a tweet from WarcraftPets today, I logged onto my rogue and flew to Winterspring for one reason only – the Snowy Owl. I figured since it’s Winter on Khadgar, I’m good to get a seasonal owl for my collection. So when I flew into the area with my paid flight, I was excited to see a lot of them below me, noting the spots of where I saw them. However, when I landed and mounted over there, they were nowhere to be seen. At first I thought, some lucky bugger had captured them all in the minute it took to ground mount it over there. So I rode around the entire zone trying to find a wild one. (It’s always sad when you realise you have no Gold on your old server to buy flying…) By the time I reached the middle of the zone, I did a search for who else was in the area, it was just me. It seems the server I was on when I took the flight in Org was different to the one when I landed. Urg!

The server said it was 9.20pm so I figured it may just be a nocturnal spawn since others had written that it’s not dependant on a snowstorm. So I logged in again 20mins before midnight on the server and had a brief look around. Nothing. I waited until 1min til midnight before I started riding around again. Sure enough I found one and captured it without much effort.

I thought it was a bit funny when someone wrote that they managed to get one on my main server which is odd considering Dath’remar is an Oceanic server on an East coast time zone but the server itself still follows US time zones.

Just to confirm, I found one on Dath at ~6.30pm so they appear to be sporadic.

So if you’re after one for your collection, now’s the time to get it :)

  1. Grats Cymre!! I saw the Facebook post from Warcraftpets about them and went for a look too, since I love owls. I found quite a few this morning around 8am, and captured a rare. They’re pretty things.

  2. Heya. I found them last night (after 11pm UK time, so gone midnight EU server time) and tweeted to Warcraft Pets in my excitement – they passed it on to the wider community :)

I flew around for hours battling every owl I saw but got nothing better than a common one :(

I decided to try again this morning (about 10am server time) and it would seem that they had all gone to bed for the day because I only found one little late bird. Will try again when it gets dark this evening.

Well done on getting yours and happy to have done my bit for the pet collecting community!

  3. I went straight there and checked but no luck, no Miniferal either but I did replace a few commons with rares so wasn’t for nothing!

  4. Congratulations! After reading your post I flew there hopefully – but wasn’t able to find any. I did, however, manage to get two robo pets that I hadn’t caught yet – worth the trip anyway! :)

  5. Argh! My goal for today is to get one of these. However, the login server is broken! I *was* able to get a Restless Shadeling after midnight on Halloween in the cellars of Karazhan. That got me the Eastern Kingdom achievement. Now I just need a single pet from Storm Peaks and I’ll have the meta achievement.

  7. I don’t think there’s any time or weather requirements – I picked one up in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in good weather. I do think that because of the pent-up demand that they’re being farmed pretty heavily, so finding one is going to be a factor of luck or patience for the time being. Once the majority of aggressive hunters have theirs though, I expect it’ll be pretty easy to find.
