Zen Master Aki

Woot! I did it!

I’ve finally tamed Pandaria :)

I was determined to beat Aki before Mists came out and a few of the Pandarian Master Tamers sure were tough. I had the hardest time with the ones in Krasarang Wilds and Kun-Lai Summit. Of course, you can’t even try to battle Aki until you’ve defeated the first six.

This will surely change come live depending on what kind of quality pets I can get my hands on so my team may very well be different to what I had on the beta. Never-the-less, this was my winning team against Aki.

There was also a bit of luck involved as my opening Humanoid pet was up against Aki’s Serpent so I didn’t need to swap out. As a rule, your fastest pet always goes first so I was lucky to get a few good hits off the bat. I almost managed to win the battle with just two of my pets so I knew I had it in the bag. My chicken hardly needed to fight at all. In fact, she only came out at the very end to finish off Aki’s last pet.

Once you have defeated Aki you get a nice achievement. As with the others, she becomes a daily.

Unfortunately, I didn’t beat her the second time ’round.

See, I told you there was some luck involved, even with the same opening sequence. :P

Edit: In 5.1, you receive the achievement I Choose You and a Heavy Sack of Gold (in the mail) which contains 3000G. Be aware that since this is an account-wide achievement, you will only get the reward once so make sure you log onto your main first – otherwise you may end up with a low level alt that is 3K richer.

I saw that I was fairly close to getting That’s a Lot of Pet Food for the next pet reward so I’ve been slowly working on that number. It’s also been a while since I copied my toons over, so I counted another five or six pets collected since then. Late last night I copied my Alliance and Horde priest over expecting to see the count go up. However, I was disappointed to find that the number didn’t change at all, so I set out to find some of the ones I was missing.

When I was collecting the Wild Pets of Eastern Kingdoms, the Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling was hard to find. It was only available as part of a Twilight Highlands team and not in the wild. But back then the pet wasn’t able to be captured either. Luckily this has since been fixed.

I did try and get the Silithid Hatchling for my 400th pet but since you need a sandstorm in Tanaris, I looked for an easier alternative. That’s when I noticed another goldfish pet in the journal – Fishy is available to both Horde and Alliance as a quest reward.

Oddly enough, the achievement didn’t automatically give me the pet. Once I had logged back in though it was in my journal.

He must get tired pretty easily though as it doesn’t take much before he burrows in the ground and falls asleep. If I didn’t know better I’d say he was drooling.

Wild Pets – Special Conditions

There are a number of wild pets which are seasonal, weather or time-dependant, so if you’re looking to add them all to your collection, this should help.

These are all the ones listed under the Pet Journal which specify the conditions needed to spawn.
