After reading Erinys‘ post about the hopling pet, I knew I would be be able to do this soon as the natural progression for Chen’s storyline led us into the dungeon of Stormstout Brewery. The best part is, you can do the achievement on either difficulty so I was eager to get another pet for my ever-expanding collection.

Auntie Stormstout

Auntie Stormstout turns into a vendor once you accept her quest. All you need to do is buy Ling-Ting’s Favourite Tea which allows you to see Golden Hoplings for 5mins. Between the two of us, we managed to find all 30 by consuming only two teas each.

The Hoplings are tiny though and tend to hide in corners or behind barrels, etc. You can even find one or two outside leading to the upper levels. Turning friendly nameplates on helped a lot as this is what you’ll be looking for…

Once we managed to get all thirty, we received the achievement – Ling-Ting’s Herbal Journey with the Hopling as a reward. Just in time to keep my little friend company. :)

That currently brings me to 274 unique pets :)

Oh and I forgot to mention that I missed my 500th post milestone a couple of days ago. Better late than never right?

Highlights of the Jade Forest

Highlights of the Jade Forest

Yesterday Cool and I finished all the questlines in the Jade Forest earning us the Upjade Compete achievement. There were a lot of new things to see and old friends to visit but it was great to be able to play through the storylines finally. I must say that Blizzard really outdid themselves with the voices and music. It made us wonder how many people left the Jade Forest before they completed all their quest chains? I know a lot of people were itching to go to the new areas as soon as they hit 86 or received one of the breadcrumb quests but then you may have missed some of this…

The huge jade statue we were helping to rebuild ended up being decimated by the Sha of Doubt. Here we were at Cho’s Family Shrine on top of Serpent’s Overlook and we didn’t even reach his head.

Talk about flying in style… it’s not every day you get to fly into the Valley of the Four Winds on the back of such a majestic looking serpent.

We do plan on completing each zone fully before we head to the next area though or even venture into the dungeons so we can immerse ourselves in the rich story. Earlier today we completed the dungeon since we were officially done with the zone. Plus the Guild rep doesn’t hurt :)

Feral Battling

Feral Battling

Phew! It’s been another productive day for me as I managed to max out my herbalism, which proved tricky in Kun-Lai Summit for an 85 druid with dodgy gear. Even though I started doing the quests in The Jade Forest just to upgrade my gear, it proved dicey at times. The herbs let me work on my Alchemy so that I could potentially discover the recipe to make the new diamonds for my last three points in JC. My scribe on the other hand, managed to max out her profession as well so I was able to make my two kite pets. :)

Woot for Jack of All Trades too! Talk about achievements galore. :D

After a lot of captures and achievements, as well as the starter battle quests for Eastern Kingdoms I completed the Big City Pet Brawlin’ – Alliance. By the end of the night, I also managed to get the Feral Vermling as a reward for completing the achievement Going to Need More Leashes.

By the way, if you’re short a pet or two from the achievement, don’t forget to buy the racial ones for each of your toons. I logged into my 48 worgen today to collect my Gilnean Raven from the trainer but the task turned out to be a lot harder than I anticipated. Her home is normally in Darnassus so I had to work out/remember how to get to Stormwind from there (while picking up some missing pets along the way through captures). The hardest part turned out to be physically getting to the Battle Trainer on the other side of the wall from the Harbour. After trying to run there from inside, I attempted to climb the mountain from the initial human starting area and swimming in the canal. But after what seemed like ages, I asked one of the guards so I could pinpoint her location on the map. From there it was a lot easier as I realised that she wasn’t as far out as I thought – I’m too used to flying to her which is much less annoying =/

I think I’m also up to 11 rare pets so far… I started out slow this time ’round but pretty soon I’ll be back where I was on the beta saying that I managed to defeat Aki the Chosen again. Now that’s a challenge! :P

First Impressions of Mists

It’s been a full day since the official release of Mists and I have to say, although this new continent is vibrant and the music is refreshingly different, the lag was very annoying. Other than that, I was happy to experience the otherwise seamless release that Blizzard had hoped for. The servers went live with the new content at 5pm server (local) time so it was a race to get your initial quests done – along with the rest of the CRZ players /sigh.

Originally, Cool and I had planned to do pet battles for the first night although as it got closer to 5pm, I made sure we had a few dailies to hand in once the clock ticked over. The extra bit of Guild rep was a nice bonus from the get-go so we headed off to Garrosh’s chamber to begin our journey out to Pandaria again.

I have to say that even though the The Jade Forest was the only zone I quested through, it was great to see the development of the terrain and quests to be able to say oh this bit is similar (without the bugs) and whoa, this is different! We tried to get out of the initial starting area ASAP so it helped that Cool had done the updated starter quests on one of his alts. I even saw a few familiar faces from my server.

Luckily I’m not afraid of heights

Yesterday, I noticed that my blog stats had a rather large jump in views. The last time that happened, Wow Insider had linked my Pandaren Hunter Pets post via Twitter. When it happened again yesterday, I saw that the majority of referrals were coming from WoWWiki and my various Pet Battle posts. Today, I’ve had another milestone, with views already over 2.5K and rising so thanks to all my regular and new visitors. Hope you continue to find what you’re looking for.

So last night, I started my Pet Battle quest chain again as well as adding a number of new pets to my collection. It really feels like my achievement queen is back again. According to my achievement sheet, I’ve racked up 21/81 of the achievements already. Although I did cage quite a few multiples but they aren’t in my bag. Odd!

The rest of the evening was going to be spent cloth farming so I could work on my Tailoring but in the end I took my miner out there to get my first Zen Master achievement. That almost brought me up to 600 in JC which I hope to get tonight. While I was mining, I attempted to see if it was possible to do the achievement to re-enact the scene in the cinematic but I wasn’t sure if you could reach that spot by foot. I was excited to see we could so we both managed to get the achievement late last night, marking it as the first official day! :)

For those having major trouble with lag, try changing your video setting from Ultra > Good. After the ‘pink boxes’ bug in the early beta, that’s the setting I ran with from that day forward. At least it should help until things die down a bit.

Here’s to my 500th post :)

So how was your first day?

Spring Cleaning

With less than a day to go before the expansion goes live, it’s time to do some spring cleaning. The beta has been purged from my system after five months of testing, blogging and research. Tonight I spent quite a while going through my bank, bags and Guild bank to see how much space I could gain once the levelling starts. The good news is, I gained quite a bit from items I wouldn’t miss too terribly.

There are so many ways to go once that countdown hits zero. I could do the introductory quest in Org to head out to Pandaria, level a Panda though the starting zone, work on my professions or begin pet battling. Blizzard has stated that you won’t even need to log out as you’ve had to previously so wherever you are in the world, you’ll get the introductory quest to start you on your way as well as the XP bar. At least that’s the plan, according to GC *fingers crossed right? For me though, I plan on waiting a bit before I head to Pandaria, at least until things die down a bit.

So with Mists of Pandaria going live in less than 18hrs now, what kind of last minute preparations are you doing for release and what do you plan to do once it’s live?

Whatever you decide, I’ll see you in Pandaria :)
