I’m a Collector!

LOL, what an understatement! Collector, Hoarder, you be the judge :P

For the month of August, Ambermist proposed the following challenge:

I want to know what you collect in the game

However and why-ever you loot, keep, store, organize, whatever you hold onto, or even if you refuse to hold onto anything–tell me about it!

OK, I use auto-loot. There, I said it!

Coolidge scolds me for this fact but I find it easier to loot everything in case there’s an extra nice shiny, recipe, transmog item, pet, etc. on one of the corpses. But I can’t wait for mass loot to come into play on Aug 28. On the other hand, I haven’t been using that setting on the beta, so I’m used to looking through the loot to pick and choose what I want to pick up.

It’s no secret that I collect a lot of things in the game from transmog pieces, tier sets, novelty items, pets and mounts (luckily the last 2 no longer take up inventory space). In fact, I’ve been known to hold onto quite a few things for their nostalgia value – like the Brazier of Invocation, Banner of Provocation, my Seal of Ascension ring, the Extra-Dimensional Ghost Revealer and Spectral Essence.

Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of bag addons like ArkInventory and Bagnon but for the past six months or so I’ve been using AdiBags since it automates a lot of the filters. You can even split the main categories into sub-categories like consumables, gems, recipes and trade goods. I especially like the fact that it will save your sets to their own sub-categories.

Backpacks – All illusionary bags

As you can see, a lot of the items I carry around with me are mostly transmog pieces, since my Void Storage and Bank are already full.

Bank

My bank holds an assortment of bag sizes, including an enchanting bag. Hmm, I should probably change that to a normal bag. The majority are not surprisingly transmog items with a splash of novelty items and various transformation toys. All the tabards are ones you can’t easily buy or collectibles.

My Void Storage is pretty organised, except for the loose pieces which only have 3 items in the sets. Hopefully that will change someday. I was sad to notice there was no extra space in Mists – even an extra column would have been something.

Now I admit my transmog pieces have spilled over into parts of the Guild bank. This is sure to change before Mists though. But with other items like the basic ore and gems, I always think I’ll need them for something later. You just never know when you’ll need to make that particular piece or level up a new profession, right?

The hardest thing will be to clear up a lot of bag room before September 25. It’s kind of an exciting prospect thinking about all that free space but it’s asking the question what do I get rid of? that will take the most time.

At least I have these pics to remember what was…

…but until then, the countdown continues.

  1. Ah yes, the countdown. :) Deciding what to keep or not is always a project since I tend to hoard about anything myself.

Auto-loot…I didn’t know there was any other choice. LOL! The AoE auto-loot will be my new best friend and time saver.

Your bag addon does look like something I could use though to keep things sorted out. May have to give that one a tryout.

  2. I was visiting Kirina’s Closet the other day and fell upon a forum entry about “what is your wishlist”. Among other things, one of my wishes for this game is, to save bag space, that if you complete a tier set, you should be able to store it in one slot of bag space by clicking it, a bit like greater and lesser essences or shards in the enchanting materials, or like pages/chapters of a book in quests. When you need, say, the belt for a tmog, just click it “open” select the belt, the whole set opens to take up w/e amount of slots it needs until you “merge/click” it again.

Not sure how I’ll react to the whole “AoE loot”, as I also like to run around clicking all the sparkly stuff! ;)

I use BankItems for my bank stuff, because it allows me to see what other toons have in their bank and guild bank, and it works cross-realm and cross-faction too if you like. AdiBags looks awesome though. Can I see what other toons have while I’m on one specific toon? It’s definitely worth the look! :D Thanks Cymre!

  3. I am such a nostalgia collector. So, so guilty as charged.

At least most of your stuff seems pretty organized; your void storage looks like a closet, it’s so nice! I’m also freaking out about clearing bag space for MoP. I think I’ll probably ditch my feral gear the night before the patch. Unless someone asks me to go tank… >.<

    • @Ay – Good to hear about the addon :)

      @Arv – What?

@Anou – I really like that idea for tier sets. That would definitely be a space saver. Although I don’t know why tabards can’t be virtual items as well. Adibags only seems to be specific for that toon. I use Altoholic for checking my other toons :)

@Amber – Thx, I try :) Having full sets definitely looks better than a mish mosh of stuff :P

  4. I love the way you have your completed sets organized in your void storage!

I didn’t start using autoloot until just recently — within the past year, I think — and I wonder why I waited so long? I’m really looking forward to AoE looting, too.

I hang onto old crafting mats for the same reason — I never know just when I’ll want something for an outfit that is craftable, and I’d like to have the mats already on hand.

    • @Tome – But I’m trying to get rid of stuff. So far I have 22 free spots after one night of throwing stuff out. It’s sad when the vendor doesn’t even want the item =/

@Kam – Haha, thx :D Yep, that’s exactly right about the G bank stuff.

  6. Your void storage looks so tidy, I am very impressed! Now, why doesn’t it surprise me that Cymre, who makes such fantastic costumes and mog sets is a bit of a clothes horse? :D

    • @Cool – You always said you wanted to see in my bags. :P

@Navi – Thx, it’s the perfect size for sets, I just figured that’s why they designed them that way. :)

  7. Apropos of nothing, I was intrigued by AdiBags, so I went and tried it out. I’ve been a longtime devotee of TBags thanks to its fairly sensible out of the box approach to grouping. But Adi takes it to a whole new level. Espcially, speaking of which, its ability to sort stuff BY level :)

So, thanks for that! I hope it survives the transition to MoP.
