I’m not sure how long these challenges have been going on but this month, Battlechicken has given us the following for July.
Give me a detail about yourself.
You can tell me something about your gaming personality or about your favorite color. You can tell me how you got started playing the game you love to play. You can tell me how gaming affects your life or you can get personal, if you want. Tell me about something you fear, something you treasure, something you’ve learned. Tell me about why you write. Tell me about why you play.
Tell me about you, because from what I can see, you’re pretty cool.
To be honest, I wasn’t planning on doing this challenge as I didn’t know what I could share – other than what I already had. But over the past couple of weeks, I’ve read on a lot of great things on the topic and realised that everyone has something to contribute no matter what their history is. Mine is very different to the life and death decisions or pivotal events which help shape who we are. Some are horrifying to read, while others prefer to play the naming game and relive first passions.
Now I’m not normally a fan of posting photos on the blog as this is about my gaming persona but I think I’ve shrunk the images down enough that you get an idea of who I am without every little detail. Hence the costumes, sunglasses, helmet or mask :P
I’m an adventurous kind of soul who has never said no to an amusement park ride. Although at Magic Mountain, my cousin said he would wait for me while I queued for my first free fall ride – this is not an uncommon occurrence as other males have said no to going on a roller coaster with me. So I queued for Freefall and ended up being seated next to two 15yo girls. As our three-seater rose to it’s final elevation point, I wasn’t sure if I’d made the best decision but when we suddenly started plummeting towards the earth, the girls beside me were laughing their heads off while I actually felt a bit of angina pain. There’s nothing like a life and death moment for about 10secs. To this day, that’s the only ride I’ve had an issue with.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to do quite a bit of travelling including Fiji, New Zealand, Asia and the States, while going on my first big solo trip in ’97 travelling across Europe. The opportunity to take lots of pics is too hard to pass up for an avid photographer and I’ve managed to upgrade my camera a few times since then.
On occasion, I’ll even dress up for a good cause – like Catwoman for a work Christmas function, play an extra for a commercial or movie as well as model for the catwalk.
I’m also lucky to be blessed with great genes. My last living grandparent (who was the only one I got to know growing up) died at the ripe old age of 103 (although she had no birth certificate so her children were always a little unsure of her age). She always had very good skin which was passed on to my mother and then to me.
Around high school, I began my beauty regimen which consisted of a three-step morning and evening ritual. During a school retreat at 16, another girl commented that she didn’t even wash her face. At the time, I wished that I could fast forward to when this other girl and I were thirty to see how our skin compared.
Even now, I’m often mistaken for being a lot younger than my years. I’ll just say I was a child of the (early) 70′s but a couple of years ago, I was mistaken for a 21yo by my old Project Manager.
We were working over the weekend, when he said:
PM – You’d be too young to remember so-and-so (I can’t remember what we were talking about)
Me – You might be surprised.
PM – So how old are you?
Me – XX
PM – (he looks at me) How old are you really?
Me – XX
PM – No, come on, how old are you?
Me – Do you want to see my Driver’s Licence?
PM – Seriously?
Me – Why? How old did you think I was?
PM – 21 or so
(he was 28) :P
By the way, I’m Eurasian (Chinese/Russian) so the Asian part defiantly has a lot to do with it :)
“The Dark Phoenix Saga” is an extended X-Men storyline focusing on Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force which ends in Grey’s apparent death.
It is sometimes divided into two parts, with the “Phoenix Saga” referring to Grey’s seeming assumption of the Phoenix power and the repair of the M’Kraan Crystal, and the “Dark Phoenix Saga” referring to her corruption and fall. It is one of the most well-known and heavily referenced stories in mainstream American superhero comics, and widely considered a classic.

Honestly, I found Phoenix’s history to be quite long-winded from the short amount of research I did. As you know, I like to write a little blurb about the Super I focus on for the week, usually referencing just one site. Again, only having seen her in the X-Men movie, that’s really all I had to go on.
After my recent poll which asked readers to pick their favourite Superhero or villain, Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix came up as the first two ‘other’ votes, so I added her to the list. By the end, she had 6 independent votes placing her in the top spot (followed by Batman on 5 and Wonder Woman on 4) so I thought it only fair to add her to my Super series.
I think the top image is particularly stunning and I love the second image which has a distinct Blood Elfy feel to it. Another mix of armour was used but this is the first time I’ve used a shirt in place of the chest piece – as well as being the hero piece.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of my Super Sunday series :)
