Aquaman

Aquaman, also known as Arthur Curry and Orin, is a superhero and the ruler of the seas. As the king of Atlantis and other undersea territories, he technically controls most of the planet. His abilities include super-strength, durability, super-speed, staying underwater indefinitely, and telepathy, which he uses to communicate with sea-life. His aquatic nature means he requires water regularly at the risk of dehydration, although he is perfectly capable of staying on land for extended periods. He is also a founding member of the Justice League of America. Arthur Joseph Curry was his successor after the original died, and had his own adventures for several years, until Orin was resurrected during Blackest Night and reclaimed his title. Aquaman was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, first appearing in More Fun Comics #73. (1941)

The most I’d seen about Aquaman was from what I’d seen in Smallville (which was only a few episodes) but when I saw this first image on DeviantART, I knew I had to do a “Super’ version too. I just love mermaids.

As usual, I used a combination of armour for this set.

I read that The WB network was looking at making an Aquaman series back in 2006 but the series was never picked after the merger between the WB and UPN. Since the pilot was never aired by the new CW Network, it was later made available through iTunes. It turned out to be the number-one most downloaded television show after it was made available online in the United States and received generally favourable reviews; later released through other online markets, and aired on the Canadian television network YTV.

So tonight I looked up the trailer and the first thing that stood out to me was Annette O’Toole’s voice (who played Martha Kent in Smallville) and Justin Hartley (who plays Aquaman here) played Green Arrow in the same show.

After watching the trailer, I think it’s a shame they never went ahead with it.

Did anyone ever watch the pilot?

Edit: Just watched the pilot today and thought it was awesome! :D

Don’t forget to check out the rest of my Super Sunday series :)
