Six degrees

Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that everyone is approximately six steps, by way of introduction, from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of “a friend of a friend” statements can be made to connect any two people on average, in six steps or fewer.

The game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” was even invented as a way to illustrate this concept. The goal was to link any actor to Kevin Bacon through no more than six connections, where two actors are connected if they have appeared in a movie or commercial together.

This isn’t really like that ;P

However, the premise of this made me think of the above due to the number they all had in common. So far, I’ve seen this challenge linked around three times from Gnomeaggedon to whose tweet caught my eye. From there I saw

  1. Navimie had been tagged, who in turn tagged me, as well as
  2. Ancient
  3. Mia
  4. Rioriel
  5. Gladly
  6. Logtar

Thx so much. I couldn’t have imagined this many tags. I’ve been wondering why my ears are burning! :P

So this is what the ‘Meme the Sixth’ challenge entailed:

1. Go into your image folder (or screenshot / WoW folder)
2. Open the sixth sub-folder and choose the sixth image (or if you’re like some others with one huge folder, try six down and six across)
3. Publish the image! (writing a word or two about it wouldn’t go astray either)
4. Tag six new bloggers and watch them squirm (GL with finding six who haven’t been tagged yet) :P

Now as a WoW player, I have accumulated a lot of images over the past seven years. I don’t necessarily have folders within my screenshot folder but I do in my dedicated WoW folder, so it didn’t take long before I found this little gem.

Wolves in Vanilla, 2006

This picture was taken is 2006 after a rather long rep grind for my Wolf mount. If you recall back then, it took a whole lot of runecloth to get exalted with a city other than your own before you could buy their racial mounts. Hugadarn was a huge help at the time, not only telling me about the fact that Taurens didn’t have to ride Kudos but by demonstrating his non-racial mount for me and I was in love with the fact of having something different to ride.

I remember coming home after work and trying to save all the runecloth I could for hand-ins. I would sometimes find stacks of runecloth waiting for me in the mail just for that purpose. After finally getting Exalted with Orgrimmar, I stated that Huga and I should go on a road trip just so I could try out my new ride. We took the Zeppelin to Undercity and rode all the way to Tyr’s Hand in Eastern Plaguelands. Hence the pic.

For my six bloggers I’ve chosen (in no particular order):

  1. Syrco » Sixth Challenge
  2. Vidyala » Sixth
  3. Pando » whose choices were already tagged
  4. Discopriest »
  5. Kaleri » This Six Thing
  6. Poneria » Six Thingy

With more people getting on board to do this this, it’s getting harder and harder to pick names so I just hope by the time I’ve posted this, no one has beaten me to them ;P

  4. What fun. Now I get to watch and wait. :)

I so* remember those turn ins… I also remember that if you started your character too early, you got nailed with diminishing returns on your reputations, which made it all that much harder to get exalted anywhere. Taoiseach still isn’t exalted with her home faction!

  5. Nice screenshot and good memories :D But the farming for Runecloth was so annoying, I just bought it all but it was so expensive.
